Ben Mendelsohn has been taking the industry by storm over the last couple of years, and now he has landed his next big role.
Variety has just announced that the actor has landed the role of the Sheriff of Nottingham in the upcoming film, Robin Hood: Origins.
The movie follows the tale of legendary outlaw Robin Hood, and his infamous rise to power. Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie The Eagle) stars as the title character, with Jamie Foxx (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Django Unchained) signed on to play his loyal partner, Little John. Jamie Dornan (50 Shades Of Grey, Once Upon A Time) is also set to star in the film as Will Scarlett, the half-brother of Robin Hood.
The Sheriff Of Nottingham is the villain of Robin Hood's story, as he aims to keep the opression of his people at an all-time high. While Robin Hood is attempting to free others from the opression of the government, the sheriff is doing exactly the opposite.
This marks Mendelsohn's third major role as a villain, fresh off of his take as the main antagonist in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Before that, Mendelsohn earned an Emmy for his role in the Netflix original series, Bloodline.
Robin Hood: Origins is being directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror) from a script written by Joby Harold (Awake, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword). The film is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2017.
