Despite the promotional onslaught building up to the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there are still many mysteries surrounding the new film. One such question revolves around Benicio del Toro's mysterious new character, DJ.
A brand new TV spot for the upcoming movie finally reveals del Toro's character in action. Check it out in the clip above.
Though the clip is mostly filled with footage we've already seen before, it gives us a good look at del Toro's DJ surrounded by a bunch of First Order Stormtroopers.
While we don't know much about the character, we do know that he has a history with Man Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o). Maz puts her allies in the Resistance in contact with DJ, causing Finn (John Boyega) and Rose Zico (Kelly Marie Tran) on a mission to rendezvous at the casino planet known as Canto Bight.
From there, the group goes to infiltrate the First Order. While we knew Rose and Finn would be donning disguises to sneak among their enemies, a recent behind-the-scenes reel showed DJ walking among them as well.
Director Rian Johnson wouldn't reveal what DJ stands for, saying the meaning behind the letters would become clear in the new movie, but a Funko POP! Vinyl figure might have given it away. In the figure, DJ is wearing a hat that reads a phrase in Aurebesh which reads "Don't Join."
The phrase may be a red herring, inaccurate, or something else entirely, but if it's a reference to his callsign it raises much more questions about DJ's involvement with the Resistance's mission. If his mantra is not to join a side in the battle between the two opposing forces, what would make him change his mind now?
Despite all of the mysteries swirling around the new film, the questions surrounding del Toro's character are some of the most intriguing.
Fans won't have to wait much longer to find out what's going. Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.0comments
