If you happen to be an Empire subscriber that loves Star Wars, you're in for a special treat.
That's because the newest issue of Empire features a Star Wars: The Last Jedi-themed cover. The cover shows Rey's hand holding out Luke's old lightsaber. It's a big departure from the robotic hand that Luke is holding out to receive it, signifying one of the main foundation points of the film.
What could make it better? Well, an actual lightsaber for one, but to be fair no one has the actual budget to make that happen. What they can do though is make the entire cover holographic, which is a slick way to celebrate the upcoming film and the special eight-page feature about the anticipated movie.
Subscribers will see this in their mailbox in the next few days, but non-subscribers can pick this up on September 7th.
You can view the cover in the gallery.
As for Luke, he will play an important part in Rey's growth, but he isn't the star. "[I]t's not about us anymore" Luke actor Mark Hamill explained to the Vancouver Sun. "In this new one, I was saying to [writer/director] Rian Johnson: I need to know my backstory. It was kind of unclear. You read where he is now and what he's doing now and sort of have to fill in the blanks for yourself. So I did do a backstory myself. It's not about Luke anymore, so it's not really important. But I had to make sense of it for myself."
The film continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15th.
