Investors, press members, and theater owners have all had an opportunity to see new footage from the latest Star Wars installment, and now everyone else is chomping at the bit to see what the fuss is all about.
Though we've heard reports of Rey's new appearance and her time spent training with Luke Skywalker, we've barely heard much of anything regarding her allies from The Force Awakens, such as Poe Dameron and the new fan-favorite droid BB-8.
A new report from the site Making Star Wars has detailed some new information regarding the Resistance's ace pilot and his droid companion, though it sounds like they will be separate for a good portion of the film. In fact, the BB unit might see some competition from some of his counterparts in the relationship department with Dameron.
The report seems to indicate that Oscar Isaac's character will be butting heads with Laura Dern's character, who we learned is referred to as Admiral Holdo of the Resistance. Poe will be leading a fleet of what remains of the Resistance through space as they attempt to stay a step ahead of First Order forces.
Poe will also get an upgrade to his black X-Wing fighter in the form of new engines, so maybe we can expect another showcase of his skills like we saw in The Force Awakens.
Yet BB-8 will not be by his side, as the report states the droid will accompany Finn for most of the film. It's rumored that Finn, BB-8 and a new character will join together as they attempt to infiltrate the First Order.
But that does not mean Poe will be without a sidekick, as Making Star Wars indicates that there will be other BB units in the film on both sides of the battle:
On a side note, there are Resistance BB units in the film too. However, these guys look very rusty and old. They are not evocative of Artoo-Detoo like BB-8 is. I want to say they're almost steam punk in design. Their look is very brassy and beat up and they're in contrast to the First Order BB units that are black with red hot vents on the side of the body. It all makes BB-8 all the more unique.
We're excited to see some different variations of the ball droids in the new film, but we don't any of them have the personality that BB-8 employs in spades.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theaters on December 15.
