On Tuesday morning, the first official photo from the film was released online. The photo revealed the main cast members, along with the directors, in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.

In addition to the photo, a press released was sent out regarding the beginning of the film’s production. In the cast list, a couple of popular actresses were noted as having officially joined the cast.

Thandie Newton – star of HBO’s hit series Westworld – was added to the cast, which brings even more veteran star-power to the film. It was also confirmed that writer/actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge was indeed in the film. It was previously reported that she had been in talks for an undisclosed role, but that her character would be heavily CGI-based.

The other big news coming from this release was the fact that Joonas Suotamo will be full replacing Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. Mayhew portrayed the character in the original films, but the two actors split time in the costume while filming The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Jon and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay, and many Star Wars veterans are on board the Millennium Falcon once again including: Neal Scanlan (Creature & Droid FX Creative Supervisor), Neil Lamont (Production Designer), Dave Crossman and Glyn Dillon (Co-Costume Designers), Jamie Wilkinson (Prop Master), Lisa Tomblin (Hair), Amanda Knight (Make-Up) and Nina Gold (UK Casting Director).

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
