Star Wars Rebels took the stage Saturday at Star Wars Celebration Europe for a two-hour panel featuring new teases from showrunner Dave Filoni, stars Sam Witwer (Darth Maul) and Tiya Sircar (Sabine), and the first two full episodes of the third season of the show. Oh, and there were also some massive announcements at the show.

You can watch the livestream of the panel above at 4:00 p.m. BST / 11:00 a.m. EDT / 8:00 a.m. PDT, and refresh for our highlights of the panel with all the news and quotables below.

Warwick Davis took the stage first to moderate the panel, after a suitably epic announcement video. He's best known to Star Wars fans as Wicket the Ewok, of course.

Filoni, Witwer, and Sircar came out on stage and Filoni thanked the fans for filling the 4,000-seat Celebration Stage.

"Did Ahsoka survive the battle with Vader?" Davis asked immediately. "Look, Yoda says a lot of things to Anakin; death is a natural part of life, miss people do not, mourn them do not," Filoni said. "The battle between Ahsoka and Darth Vader is something we planned for 10 years, and finally we got to make it happen. When it's someone like Ahsoka, who I really love, it's hard to kill her off. I'm not going to say in what way, but you might not have seen the last of Ahsoka Tano."

Moving on to Season 3, Kanan's new look, bearded and blind, was revealed on screen. He has a mask, it looks like cut from the Jedi Temple Guard mask, that he sometimes wears over his eyes. "The way it changes the way he looks at life will be compelling," Filoni said.

"Star Wars isn't doing things right if it's not reflecting real life," Filoni said, explaining Ezra's short hair and new teenager attitude.

Sabine, of course, has a new look, too, with new paint on her armor, and new hair! She has white hair with purple tips now, exactly what Sircar asked for when Filoni asked what she'd like her new hair to be. "We won't know everything in season 3, but we get to know a lot more [about Sabine]," Sircar revealed. "I get to interact with a lot of Mandalorians, and I may or may not be related to some of them..."

"She has to face her past in a tangible way. There are some altercations. And she has some new.... gadgets!" Sircar said, which Filloni praised her for her teasing ability.

We watched a clip of Sabine in action from Season 3, facing a red-armored Mando. She grabs Ezra and flies off with him, with Chopper following in tow. "Make it quick Chop, her evil cousins are coming," Ezra says, in their quest to find a ship to escape. Ezra ignites his green lightsaber, hanging by one arm to Sabine and deflecting Mando blaster fire. He jumps onto one's back, cutting his jet pack and sending him into a cliff wall. Back with Sabine, she blows up a huge rock and knocks another couple out - and it ends there.

Hera's only main new look gives her a Rebel Alliance rank badge. Zeb's armor is stripped down a bit to "make him look a little more like the New Hope aliens," Filoni revealed.

Sam Witwer talked about how he met Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in Phantom Menace, several times by coincidence before he started working as Maul on the shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels. "The fun of this guy is that every time he shows up, we've done something different with him. He becomes something new every time. He was a general, tyrant kind of character and now..." "Now he's searching for a purpose," Filoni chimed in. "He's a bit in-between. He's still on the evil side of things, he'll never truly be good unless he finds a selfless resolution, which is not likely."

Maul goes into season 3 thinking Ezra is his apprentice. "He's a kid with a lot of potential, just a bit misguided. If Maul can help him along that path, they can together be a team. He's looking for a brother of some sort," Witwer said. Filoni said he's looking to have a legacy, "but it's done from a selfish motivation."

Next up was a clip of Maul in action in season 3. An A wing flies to an asteroid with a hollowed out area, and lands. It's Ezra and Kanan, and they arrive to Darth Maul, who invites them "kindly" in. "Welcome, my young Apprentice, I trust you found the Sith Holocron illuminating?" Maul has their friends hostage - though it's not clear exactly which ones. He separates them, bring Kanan along with him - oh, it's the whole Ghost crew captured. Maul walks Kanan to an airlock, pushes him out, and just as Kanan flips out of the lock, the clip ends.

A little trivia - that set was something from Clone Wars season 6 or 7 that continued Darth Maul's story, that had been developed, and was tweaked for this show.

The trailer for the show was next, and Filoni said, "Let's just take a moment and expand the universe a bit, shall we?" It'll be live soon on the site.

"Battles leave scars, some you can't see," Kanan says. He and Ezra talk about whether to use the Sith Holocron or not. Wedge Antilles! He has defected from the Empire and joines the Rebels here.

There's tons of great moments - Mandalorians who serve the Empire. New and old droids. The Empire needs someone new to take them down. It's Grand. Admiral Thrawn!

Standing ovation for Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen is voicing him on the show.

Timothy Zahn sent a recorded video, announcing that he's writing a new in-canon novel called Star Wars: Thrawn, and worked directly with Filoni on his use on the show!

Moving back to Sabine, yes, she has a jet pack this season. Oh, she also gets the black lightsaber, the "darksaber" that belonged to the Mandalorians, and Sam wasn't happy. "Wait, why do you have that?" he said to Sircar.

Tom Baker is doing a voice this season, a new big character called Bendu, who appears in the latter half of the trailer. "He's a middle way in the Force, he's not dark, he's not light, he's something else," Filoni teased. "He's a different kind of Force character/creature than we've ever had before, but we'll have to wait and see what it means."

Davis mentioned that Filoni hasn't known Baker as long as he's known Davis, but "why is he in the show before me?" Davis auditioned to steal away Darth Maul from Sam Witwer, and did a very good voice. With that, it turned to Fan Q&A.

Is Mara Jade next? "No, not likely," Filoni said. "Remember, we got Thrawn? Yay?"

Any of the Clone Wars voices coming back? Maybe Daniel Logan (who voiced Boba Fett)? "You never know. I've actually tried to bring a lot of the Clone Wars voice actors back," Filoni said. "I love those guys, they all did such tremendous work for me, I love them a lot." Davis chimed in saying, "you don't need to keep recycling old actors, though, bring in a new bloke!"

What's the name of the character who teaches Ezra through the Sith Holocron? "That's a great question, this is a horrible answer: I know the answer. But I'm not going to tell you."

Kanan's new mask in season three was "one of the most difficult designs" for the team, and Killian Plunkett and Filoni went back and forth on it for a long time. The root of it is the Jedi mask he found on Malachor, and Sabine altered it.

Maul and the Emperor going to see each other again? "You should definitely do more scenes between Maul and the Emperor," Witwer said to Filoni. He voices both characters on the show. "It would be really dangerous for Maul to meet the Emperor again," Filoni said.

Maz Kanata possible for the show? "That's a great idea," Filoni said with a grin. "You have a good mind for this sort of thing. That doesn't mean anything I've said means we're doing that..."

Cad Bane? "He's really tough, really crafty, really clever. I would wager he might still be around," Filoni said.

A fan saw the Outrider ship in the trailer and asked about Dash Rendar coming to the show. "You see what I deal with?" Filoni said to Sircar. "I'll be direct with you, no. The ship you got - it's the same class of ship, and the designer, who designed it for LucasArts is now on my crew."

With that, the panel ended, switching over to the premiere of the first two episodes of the season.
