Fear the Walking Dead will be returning a fan-favorite character to its series during the show’s third season, as confirmed by showrunner Dave Erickson. In his final season in charge of the AMC series, Erickson will be bringing the popular Daniel Salazar character back into the mix, played by Ruben Blades, after he went missing in a fire back in the earlier half of Season 2.

“We’ve said publicly that he didn’t die in the fire,” Erickson said in an interview with EW set to be printed on June 9. “And I think what was always important is that the characters, specifically Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), thought they had lost him. I think his return is long overdue, and I can promise that Daniel Salazar will rise again over the course of the season.”

With Salazar set to return to Fear the Walking Dead, question marks still surround Colman Domingo’s character of Victor Strand and Daniel’s daughter Ofelia. Strand elected to hang back at the hotel when the rest of group decided it was time to go and Ofelia was mysteriously taken as a prisoner/hostage late in Season 2. Certainly, Daniel will be searching for his daughter if they have not already come together.

Much of the group will be reuniting at a military compound to start the season, all in the aftermath of the slaughtering of Luciana’s Tijuana Colonia in the final moments of the Season 2 finale. Leave it to a Dead show to create such a bitter sweet reunion.

Other Missing Faces

Daniel is hardly the only character in the world of The Walking Dead to have gone missing.ย

In addition to the aforementioned Strand and Ofelia, another character from Fear the Walking Dead has a giant question mark surrounding his fate. Tobias, the high school student who tried to educate Madison about what was going on with the zombie apocalypse, head off on his own instead of continuing the journey with the group.

On the other side of the spectrum, The Walking Dead has also sent a few characters packing. In the show’s first season, Morales and his entire family elected to head to Birmingham, Alabama when Rick Grimes set out for Atlanta and Heath went M.I.A. during an episode of the show’s seventh season. Neither of the characters have been heard from again.
