The Walking Dead‘s eighth season is aiming to make fans happy by not only featuring their favorite characters in more screen time but having them share it with ideal faces.
The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple has been surprisingly open about the upcoming return of the AMC series, revealing facts such as whether or not we should expect Maggie’s baby to arrive in Season 8, but has now dropped an interesting tease of upcoming relationships and dynamics.

“We’ll see characters affect one another that we haven’t seen affect one another before, or even just thrown together that we haven’t seen thrown together,” Gimple told TVLine. “That’s been really satisfying.”
Gimple isn’t really saying the Daryl and Carol relationship will finally be what the shippers are rooting for but, instead, that Carol might ride shotgun with Rosita or Rick might substitute a ride to battle with Michonne or Morgan for an alliance with Jerry or even Dwight.
In any case, it sounds like the “bottle episodes,” as fans referred to the singularly character focused episodes, will not be as prominent in Season 8.
“Because of the narrative that we’re following, the story this season is really spread out among all of the characters,” Gimple said. “And the story shifts quite a bit in single episodes between lots of different characters on a consistent basis, which is a little more unusual for the show.”
During The Walking Dead‘s Season 8 preview special which aired on AMC on Sunday night, Gimple seemed to rule out the possibility of bottle episodes, though he did note a Carol-centric episode is a possibility in the future.
The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017. The Season Eight premiere will mark 100 episodes overall for the popular AMC series. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
