WARNING: Major Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of The Walking Dead! Continue reading at your own risk…
If you recall, earlier this season, Carl and Rick ran into a random man at a gas station and, in typical Walking Dead fashion, the father and son disagreed. Carl wanted to help the man, who seemed completely on his own. Rick, on the other hand, wanted to either leave him alone or put him down.

Carl being Carl, he went back and found that same man in tonight’s episode, and it was revealed that the character’s name is Siddiq. For comic readers, this is a name you’ll probably recognize.
In the source material, Siddiq was part of the original Oceanside settlement. Once he met Michonne, he travelled to Alexandria to meet Rick, and became a vital part of the communities going forward. He even had a relationship with Rosita for a while.
With his comic history in mind, it’s safe to say that Siddiq is probably an ally when it comes to the show, even if his introduction comes against Rick’s wishes.
Now, it is important to keep in mind that the show does flip the script now and again. There’s always a chance that this version of Siddiq could be different than the one in the comics.
However, at this point in the war, another adversary is unlikely. There isn’t really any reason to try and make things harder on Rick and the survivors going forward. Having problems with Negan is enough for now.
For now, it’s probably safe to assume that Siddiq is an ally to Rick and the others.
