Issue #100 of The Walking Dead has become one of the most infamous books in comic book history. The Robert Kirkman-written series had been teasing the existence of a villain called Negan for months and finally debuted the character in truly epic and brutal fashion. A new fan-made cover, featured in the gallery below, changes its impact for today’s Dead audience.

In the issue, Negan burst onto the scene with a menacing F-word laced monologue, diminishing the leadership of Rick Grimes and bashing the skull of Glenn Rhee, one of the series’ original characters, with a baseball bat. It was violent, ruthless, and unforgettable. The issue has stained the minds of its readers on its way to becoming the most talked about book in years.

Since, Negan has taken over The Walking Dead‘s AMC series, as well. Jeffrey Dean Morgan debuted in the part in the show’s Season 6 finale where he bashed the skull of some unfortunate survivor (to that point) and created one of the most talked about cliffhangers in TV history. It didn’t stop there, either. When the show returned for its seventh season, Negan went to town on Abraham and Glenn’s heads as the cable series pushed the limits on the amount of violence which can be broadcasted. The conversation only grew.

Now, a fan is giving Negan the proper spotlight on the cover of his intrductory issue in the comics. Originally, Issue #100’s main cover only featured an outline of Negan with his face blacked out and his precious Lucille bat front and center. A new variant from an unknown artist gives Morgan’s portrayal of Negan the cover of the iconic issue as it is deserved after making such a mark on comics, television, and pop culture in general.

The cover, featured in the gallery below with official variants of The Walking Dead issue #100, was posted to Reddit by user aronfellowes, who may have drawn the cover themselves or had an artist create it for them at a comic convention. Without a signature on it, the latter is unlikely.

Issue #100 of The Walking Dead comic was first printed on July 11, 2012.
