‘Riverdale’ Season 2 Will Continue To Address Social Justice Issues

Riverdale might be headed towards a ‘darker and stranger’ Season 2, but one star says that the show will still be grounded in its teenage sensibility.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Madelaine Petsch teased a bit of the show’s second season – including it’s addressing of typical teenage issues. According to the actress, who plays Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale has a unique opportunity to present some of those problems.

“It’s important that we go back to the things we discussed in the last season,” Petsch explained, “and that includes a lot of social justice issues.”

Riverdale fans will remember a wide variety of topics being covered in Season 1, including feminism, mental illness, toxic masculinity, and financial situations. Petsch hinted that one episode early on in Riverdale‘s sophomore season will dwell in that high school sensibility.

“We’re going into episode five next week of 22,” Petsch revealed, “and a lot of things happen in that episode that is very normal for people in high school. It’s important for TV to bring that to light, so I’m excited for people to see it.”

It’s uncertain exactly how that will factor into Cheryl’s storyline, with Petsch previously saying that the school’s resident queen bee will be “even meaner” in the new season. But Riverdale fans won’t have to wait too much longer to find out, as Riverdale‘s second season premieres on a new night, Wednesday, October 11th, at 8/7c, on The CW.
