While Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone concluded in 2024 after five wildly popular seasons, he continues to dominate television. Both Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923, were worthy expansions to the hit Western series, the Billy Bob Thornton-fronted Landman has proved to be another success with fans and critics alike, and both Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King are shows that many agree have gotten better as they’ve gone on. Falling into the same category as Kingstown and Tulsa King is Lioness. The first season (which was titled Special Ops: Lioness) didn’t win over as many critics as it would have liked to, with its 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Season 2 found itself with a massively improved 90% score.

And now we have confirmation of a third season, after the show took 2025 off. Fans have been waiting for this ever since Season 2 wrapped up 10 months ago, and it might not be that long of a wait. Season 2 began production in May 2024, with the first episode debuting only five months later on October 27, 2024. Will we have that short a wait? We don’t have that information at the ready, but we do know several things about Season 3, nonetheless.
What Do We Know About Lioness Season 3?

The show experienced a delay between Season 2 and Season 3 because the stars are just so busy. Lioness is led by Zoe Saldaรฑa and Nicole Kidman, both of whom also serve as executive producers. Saldaรฑa may have finished her time as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she did lend her voice to Pixar’s Elio. She also had the awards season press tour from late last year until early this year for the buzzy Emilia Pรฉrez.
Furthermore, there’s her reprising the role of Neytiri in the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash. The filming for that third entry in James Cameron’s saga concluded all the way back in 2020 but its press tour will also undoubtedly eat up a large chunk of Saldaรฑa’s time.
As for DCEU vet Kidman, 2024 was filled with not only Lioness Season 2 but also A Family Affair, Babygirl, and Spellbound. Her 2025 has been limited to one film, Prime Video’s Holland, but she recently wrapped filming on Practical Magic 2 alongside the original film’s Sandra Bullock, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing. In the sequel they will be joined by The Conjuring‘s Joey King, Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams, and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Lee Pace.
Another reason for the delay comes down to a contract. Saldaรฑa was contracted for three seasons from the jump, but Kidman was only scheduled for two, so she had to work with Paramount+ on writing up a new one. Both Saldaรฑa and Kidman are confirmed to return, but there is no word yet on Morgan Freeman, The Penguin‘s Michael Kelly, or terrific Season 2 addition Genesis Rodriguez.
When will Lioness Season 3 come out? Sheridan and Paramount+ have been cranking these shows out, so it seems likely to expect it sooner rather than later. For instance, Landman Season 2 started production in April 2025 and is set to debut on November 16th, making for a seven month turn around. Tulsa King Season 3 started filming in March 2025 and debuted on September 21st, making for a six-month turnaround. If Lioness Season 3 follows a similar pattern and begins filming soon it seems quite fair to expect it during the second or third quarter of 2026.
