Daredevil: Born Again is shaping up to be the flagship series of Marvel’s new TV strategy. The show has already been renewed for Season 3, a confirmation that came months before Season 2 is set to debut. In addition to having multiple new seasons to look forward to, fans are also excited about the return of notable characters from Marvel’s Netflix era. We already know that Krysten Ritter is reprising Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and there continue to be hints that Mike Colter will play Luke Cage again very soon. Those may not be the only familiar faces the showrunners are looking to bring back. There are apparently plans to give one of Matt Murdock’s old love interests a role.

According to a report from DanielRPK on Patreon (via Cosmic Marvel), Elektra is going to return in Daredevil: Born Again. It’s unknown if the character will be featured in Season 2 or Season 3. For the time being, fans should take this with a grain of salt since this is just a rumor, but Elektra’s comeback would be an interesting development.
How Could Elektra Fit Into Daredevil: Born Again?

If Elektra returns in Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel would have a little bit of explaining to do. Viewers last saw the character at the end of The Defenders, where she and Matt Murdock were buried alive in the ruins of Midland Circle. Obviously, Murdock is alive and well, but the status of Elektra remains a mystery. All fans know is that her body was never found underneath the rubble, leaving the door open for her possible survival. This would be the second time Elektra came back from the dead, after she was resurrected by the Hand.
At the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Daredevil was gearing up to prepare for a war against Wilson Fisk. If he’s going to stand a chance against the powerful mayor, Matt needs to assemble an army of allies. There could be a spot on that roster for Elektra, who’s an extremely capable fighter and has a long history with Daredevil. If Matt knows Elektra is still alive, he would likely be inclined to reach out to her for help. Or perhaps Elektra could volunteer her services as part of a surprise reveal, catching Matt off guard.
The Daredevil: Born Again creative team wouldn’t bring a character as important as Elektra back if there weren’t plans to give her a meaningful role. It would be a major disappointment if she returned after a prolonged absence and it only amounted to a bit of fan service. If Elektra is coming back to the fold, her personal relationship with Matt will likely be explored, which has the potential to be an interesting wrinkle. In Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Matt started a relationship with Heather Glenn, so the return of Elektra could throw a wrench in Matt’s plans for a possible future with Heather (assuming nothing happens to Heather in the meantime, that is). Elektra’s return could also have an impact on Matt’s dynamic with Karen Page as he reconciles with his feelings for the two women.
Since Marvel is playing the long game with Daredevil: Born Again, it might make more sense to save Elektra’s return for Season 3. The second season is going to have a lot on its plate with the reintroduction of Jessica Jones and possibly Luke Cage. Rather than cramming in all the reunions at once, it would arguably be better to space them out so Marvel can give Elektra the full attention she deserves. Another possibility is to give Elektra a surprise cameo at the end of Season 2 to set up a larger role in Season 3.
