Disney+ is planning to kick off the spooky season early this year as the Marvel Zombies are rising from their graves on September 24th. Bringing together some major voice actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise their roles in this horrific alternate reality, the show has released a new trailer highlighting the fight against the undead. Totaling four episodes, Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies is certainly earning its “TV-MA” rating as seen in the latest footage, and it almost seems certain that not every hero is making it out of this mini-series alive.

The MCU’s Marvel Zombies first appeared in the What If….? episodes that were a part of the animated series’ first season. In this fifth episode of the overall show, an alternate reality was overrun by a virus that erupted from the Quantum Realm and quickly turned Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into the walking dead. During this installment, the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, and more fell to the zombie plague, while the main survivors included the likes of Spider-Man, Black Panther, and a body-less Ant-Man escaping by the skin of their teeth. The original What If…? installment ended with Thanos transformed into a zombie, wielding most of the Infinity Stones, and he is sure to be a part of this upcoming series.
The Marvel Zombies Rise
Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies has a stacked cast, which will bring back some of the biggest heroes in the MCU to fight the undead. You can check out the huge list below of the actors and the characters that they are set to portray:
- Elizabeth Olsen – Scarlet Witch
- Paul Rudd – Ant Man
- Florence Pugh – White Widow
- David Harbour – Red Guardian
- Tessa Thompson – Valkyrie
- Simu Liu – Shang-Chi
- Awkwafina – Katy Chen
- Hailee Steinfeld – Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)
- Wyatt Russell – US Agent
- Randall Park – Jimmy Woo
- Iman Vellani – Ms. Marvel
- Dominique Thorne – Ironheart
Of these returning names listed, there is one actor who might be the biggest of them all for this series. Marvel Zombies will mark the first time that we’ve been able to see the MCU’s Blade in action, outside of Wesley Snipes’ take on the character in Deadpool And Wolverine that is. Voice actor Todd Williams will be playing the Day Walker, though this is sure to be a very different take on the legendary vampire hunter than his upcoming role in the main 616. This Blade appears to harbor the power of Khonshu and has become the new Moon Knight, seemingly taking the mantle from Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector.
In the build-up to this creepy release, Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum discussed the darker series and its far more mature approach, “We can be a little bit more hardcore. We go for the throat — no pun intended. It’s pretty wild, pretty out there. In many ways, animation is the most direct access you’ll ever have to a filmmaker’s imagination. If you can conjure it in your mind, you can put it onscreen. Marvel Zombies is proof of that. It’s not just a zombie story, it’s a sweeping adventure — one with themes of hope and despair, and that’s what you want from a rich zombie story.”
