Thunderbolts* brought not just a whole new team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also introduced one of the franchise’s strongest new characters. The movie saw the live-action debut of Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman. The character’s long-awaited appearance in the MCU seemed to upset the balance of power within the shared universe, as Sentry is often considered Marvel’s Superman in like-for-like comparisons between Marvel and DC characters. As just one of dozens of heroes introduced into the TV shows and movies of the MCU, Sentry’s exact place in the franchise’s power rankings is somewhat up for debate, as there are a handful of characters that seem slightly stronger.

While the MCU doesn’t often pit its heroes against one another, that doesn’t stop speculation as to which heroes are capable of overpowering others. Though Sentry is one of the most powerful MCU heroes introduced since Avengers: Endgame, there are still several figures in the franchise who could beat him in a fight. Whether by being outright stronger, considerably smarter, or simply possessing a completely different set of abilities, the following characters would be able to beat the MCU’s Sentry.
7) Hela
Although Thor: Ragnarok is often considered one of the MCU’s funniest movies, it also introduced one of the franchise’s most frighteningly powerful villains. Hela is shown to be capable of overpowering Thor with ease, destroying Mjolnir and claiming the throne of Asgard without difficulty. Therefore, it seems clear that she would be able to beat Sentry in a straight fight, thanks to the benefits of her Asgardian physiology combined with her ruthlessness in combat and her bloodthirsty disposition.
6) G’iah
Secret Invasion might be considered one of the worst MCU TV shows, but it had no lack of powerful characters. The show’s finale saw the Skrull G’iah imbued with the Harvest, which was made up of the DNA of various MCU heroes and villains. This gave her a variety of abilities, including those of Captain Marvel, Drax, Ghost, and Groot. The range of superpowers possessed by G’iah makes her one of the most versatile figures in the MCU, and she would likely be able to use the many abilities at her disposal to successful take on Sentry.
5) Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange might not be one of the MCU’s most obviously powerful heroes, but his previous experience within the franchise speaks for itself. Shortly after discovering his magical abilities, he was able to outsmart Dormammu and bring the villain to a stalemate. He was later able to hold his own against the Scarlet Witch, thanks to the additional power of the Darkhold. The magical nature of Doctor Strange’s abilities would likely give him an edge over Sentry, and his track record with overcoming even incredibly powerful characters indicates that he would find a way to win.
4) Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel gets a lot of hate from Marvel fans, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s one of the MCU’s most powerful characters. Her cosmic abilities make her incredibly strong, and she has had experience in going head-to-head with hugely powerful villains such as Thanos and Ronan the Destroyer. While some of Sentry’s abilities are similar to those of Captain Marvel, her level-headedness and experience as a hero give her something of an edge, and she would almost certainly be able to overpower him in a one-on-one fight.
3) Hulk
As one of the MCU’s original Avengers, Hulk is one of the franchise’s longest-serving heroes. The MCU has wasted the character in some ways, but it has still established his unparalleled strength on several occasions. Assuming that Hulk’s MCU abilities match those of his comic book counterpart, he should be able to defeat Sentry thanks to raw power, as he can easily out-muscle practically any other Marvel character thanks to his strength level rising in conjunction with his anger.
2) Death
After making her debut in Agatha All Along, Marvel’s Death is now a confirmed part of the MCU. Aubrey Plaza’s portrayal of Rio Vidal – later revealed to be Death – subtly established one of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful figures in live-action. As the living embodiment of death and decay, Death’s power is far beyond that of practically every other character as yet established in the MCU. As such, Sentry would be no match at all for her, as Death would be able to easily put an end to the hero.
1) Scarlet Witch
The MCU has introduced several characters with powerful magical abilities, but the Scarlet Witch possesses abilities far beyond the rest. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw the Scarlet Witch nonchalantly dispatch Earth-838’s most powerful heroes all at once, using her reality-warping chaos magic to simply and effectively end the battle with alarming efficiency. Based on that scene alone, the Scarlet Witch would easily beat Sentry in a fight, thanks to her mastery of her unparalleled magical abilities.
