One of Starz’s best shows has returned to Netflix more than five years after it disappeared from the streamer – and it couldn’t come at a better time. The network has put out consistently good TV, and a historical epic action series that aired in the early 2010s remains one of its best. As Starz prepares to return fans to the show more than a decade later with a highly anticipated sequel series, all four seasons of the flagship series just hit Netflix’s streaming library in September 2025.

Netflix subscribers can now stream all four seasons of Starz’s hit historical drama Spartacus. The first three seasons of the flagship show – Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Vengeance, and Spartacus: War of the Damned – and the prequel miniseries (aka Season 4), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, started streaming on Netflix on September 23rd. Executive producers Steven S. DeKnight and Robert Tapert, the series ran on Starz from 2010 until 2013 and is inspired by Thracian gladiator Spartacus, who led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic from 73 to 71 BC. The titular character was portrayed by Andy Whitfield before Liam McIntyre stepped in for the final two seasons following Whitfield’s passing in 2011.
Why You Should Watch Spartacus
Spartacus wasn’t the biggest hit with critics, averaging a 67% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes across all of its seasons, but it was well-loved by audience members and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. With intense, over-the-top action and graphic violence, plenty of explicit and scandalous moments and profanity, great characters, and a fast-paced story, Spartacus is a peak historical epic and extremely compelling drama.
The show’s return to Netflix couldn’t come at a better time, as Starz is set to debut a long-awaited Spartacus sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur. A premiere date for the show hasn’t yet been announced, though it is expected to premiere this winter. The 10-episode series is set in an alternate timeline set six months after the finale of War of the Damned and sees Tarabay reprise his role as the titular character. DeKnight returns as showrunner and executive producer, with Graham McTavish, Tenika Davis, Ivana Baquero, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, Cameron Rhodes, and Leigh Gill starring alongside Tarabay.
New TV Shows Streaming on Netflix
Spartacus is just one of several shows to join Netflix’s streaming lineup in recent weeks. The streamer’s September 2025 content lineup not only includes dozens of hit movies but also several beloved shows the subscribers won’t want to miss. The start of the month brought all seasons of the hit mini-series A Thousand Tomorrows, the beloved drama Franklin & Bash, and the hit Tatiana Maslany-led sci-fi thriller Orphan Black. Netflix has also added additional seasons of Nashville, S.W.A.T., and Ancient Aliens throughout the month.
September has also been a big month for Netflix original series, with viewers now able to watch the final episodes of Wednesday Season 2 and Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black Season 2. Season 3 of the streamer’s hit thriller series Alice in Borderland is set to drop on September 25th.
