King of the Hill returned for a brand new season of episodes earlier this Summer, but it’s going to need to address its Kahn Souphanousinphone issue before it returns for another season. King of the Hill‘s revival on Hulu brought the classic animated series back for a new batch of episodes fifteen years after the original series ended its broadcast with Fox, and with it introduced a much changed status quo for the characters. Taking place nearly a decade from the events of the original, the classic characters are now much older and at a much different place in their lives.

Because King of the Hill Season 14 runs for such a short tenure of episodes compared to the original broadcast season, it means that not only there are a few characters who miss out on the revival’s debut season entirely, but many others just aren’t as involved as they need to be. This includes Hank’s biggest neighborhood rival, Kahn, who just really isn’t around enough in the new series. And if it wants fans to get used to his new voice, Kahn needs to be in more episodes in its next season.
King of the Hill Has a Big Kahn Problem

Kahn was one of the key characters in the original King of the Hill episodes, and even got a focus in one of the final episodes of the original series ever broadcasted. Though he wasn’t one of the core members of Hank’s friend group, his original introduction to the series launched a multi-year back and forth between he and Hank. Many of the episodes featuring the two of them butting heads for one reason or another, only to then see each other in a new kind of light depending on the situation. But that dynamic was largely missing in King of the Hill Season 14.
After being mysteriously absent through most of the promotional materials for the new season, King of the Hill Season 14 only featured Kahn’s return in a single episode about his divorce. While Minh and Connie had been seen at various points throughout the season, “Kahn-scious Uncoupling” is the only time Kahn himself appears. And it immediately sparks a new story between Kahn and Hank that brings them a bit closer together when it comes to an end. But his single episode appearance really highlights how he should have been featured in more episodes overall. Which also might have helped fans with that other issue.
Is Kahn’s New Voice A Problem?

Heading into King of the Hill Season 14, it was officially announced that Ronnie Chieng would be taking over as the character from previous actor Toby Huss. It was a change that Huss welcomed as something that needed to be corrected from the original, but fans themselves are still divided over whether or not Chieng’s performance works. Chieng brings his own take to Kahn that seems a lot different from the original, but there’s just not enough time for it to sink in.
Because Kahn is only seen in one episode, it’s the only time that fans can hear this new take on Kahn in action. It’s just not enough time for Chieng to explore the character and really define his take on it, and it’s just not enough time for fans to truly adjust to that change. This means the recast sticks out even more, so there just needs to be much more of Kahn in the next season to really give Chieng a fair shot at taking over the role. Much like how Toby Huss was able to eventually find his own path with Dale, Chieng deserves a more fair shot with Kahn too.
