Following last night's juicy, scandalous, and shocking penultimate episode, The CW has released a dozen stills from next Thursday's season finale of Riverdale -- which is titled "The Sweet Hereafter."
The most interesting thing about the images is that the core four are outside in the cold, walking through a snow-covered forest. Veronica, Jughead, and Betty look especially frightened in a few of the stills, and we also see them look on as Archie punches through ice to get at something. What could it be?
The series opened with a bang. So will it conclude with one too? "There's a huge twist ending that sets up the second season," Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly. "One of our main character's life hangs in the balance."
The episode will also feature Jughead adopting Hot Dog, his dog from the comics, and consuming a hamburger -- which is something he hasn't done since the second or third episode.
Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) continue to grow closer. Betty (Lili Reinhart) is tired of her family acting as if nothing has happened and confronts her mother. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) finds himself in an unexpected situation, leaving Archie and the gang scrambling. Hermione (Marisol Nichols) makes Fred (Luke Perry) an offer that seems too good to be true. Meanwhile, the truth about Blossom's family business is revealed leaving Cheryl (Madelain Petsch) to take matters into her own hands. Madchen Amick and Ashleigh Murray also star.
Lee Toland Krieger directed the episode written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Riverdale stars KJ Apa as Archie, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camilla Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Luke Perry as Archie's father Fred Andrews, among others. The series' showrunner is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Archie Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer and the writer of Afterlife With Archie, the publisher's wildly popular zombie series.
