Scarlet Witch Is Resurrected as a Villain In Stunning Art As Her MCU Return Gets Closer

Ahead of her much-anticipated return in Marvel Zombies, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch has been imagined returning to live-action in this dark Marvel Cinematic Universe art. Elizabeth Olsen first appeared as Wanda Maximoff in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, but she has been through some huge changes in the decade since. She has suffered immense grief through the loss of her brother, Pietro Maximoff, her love, Vision, and, ultimately, her sanity and life thanks to the Darkhold. A new change might now be on the horizon for the Scarlet Witch.

What If…? season 1 introduced us to a zombified version of the Scarlet Witch, infected with Janet van Dyne’s Quantum Virus, and this powerful supervillain will be returning in 2025’s Marvel Zombies series. A live-action version of this zombified Scarlet Witch has now been imagined in new fan art shared by @bosslogic on Instagram. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars set to explore the multiverse, now is the perfect time for the zombified Scarlet Witch to make her live-action debut.

How the Scarlet Witch Can Return to the MCU Despite Her Death

It’s very possible that Doomsday or Secret Wars will bring an alternate universe variant of the Scarlet Witch into the MCU, as Elizabeth Olsen’s original iteration from Earth 616 lost her life in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After wreaking havoc across the multiverse, Wanda Maximoff sacrificed her life to destroy the Darkhold and the castle on Mount Wundagore, ensuring its dark magic couldn’t be used by anyone else. Her death was confirmed in 2024’s Agatha All Along, but given she’s a Nexus Being of such incredible power, her resurrection wouldn’t be too far-fetched.

After the events of House of M and Decimation in Marvel Comics, a shamed Wanda Maximoff separated herself from society. The Young Avengers โ€“ with Magneto’s help โ€“ eventually find her as an amnesiac in Latveria and as the wife of Doctor Doom. Doom hoped to harness the Scarlet Witch’s power for himself, and it would make sense that this storyline unfold in the MCU’s Phase 6, too. It would be fantastic to see Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch return alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

As a staunch magic-user in Marvel Comics, it’s possible that Doctor Doom could have found a way to resurrect the Scarlet Witch, perhaps in hopes of obtaining her power or reinstating the Darkhold. A well-timed red flash in Multiverse of Madness also spurred early theories that the Scarlet Witch didn’t actually die, and could have transported somewhere unknown. While it’s possible we’ll see a live-action version of Marvel Zombies’ undead Scarlet Witch in Phase 6, there are also high hopes that Olsen will return to portray the original version of her iconic and beloved MCU hero.
