Wednesday Season 3 Updates: Release Window, Story Setup & Everything We Know

Wednesday Season 3 will need to answer some big questions when the show returns to Netflix, following the major reveals in Season 2. The Jenna Ortega-led Addams Family show released its second season on the streaming service in 2025 after a nearly three-year absence. Still, it brought enough surprises and twists to help justify the wait, with the character’s sophomore year at Nevermore every bit as dark and dangerous as the first, and more secrets to be uncovered. Warning: contains SPOILERS for both parts of Wednesday Season 2.

The show explored more mysteries in Season 2, including reveals about several Addams family characters. This included teases of Wednesday’s Aunt Ophelia, the arrival of Grandmama Frump (delightfully played by Joanna Lumley), and even the reveal of Thing’s origin. It covered a lot of ground, but there’s plenty left for a third run of episodes. Wednesday Season 3 has already been renewed by Netflix, which is no surprise given it’s one of the streamer’s most popular shows. Here’s a rundown of what to expect when the show returns, and just when that could actually be.

Wednesday Season 3’s “Ideal” Release Window & How Many Episodes It’ll Have

Wednesday Season 3’s release date has not yet been confirmed, something that’s likely to make fans a little wary – and understandably so. Large gaps between seasons have become the norm for major streaming TV shows, including fellow Netflix hits like Stranger Things and Squid Game. Thankfully, with no major strikes on the horizon, things should be a little more straightforward in terms of when we’ll get to see it, and it shouldn’t be another three years.

Wednesday Season 3’s release window was teased by creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar around the release of Season 2. The pair revealed that the writers’ room for the third season had already started, and they were “a fair bit down the road” on the new episodes, with eight installments planned once again. The “ideal” scenario is that filming will begin in late 2025, which would allow the show to return in 2027, with the showrunners saying it’d require 18 months at a minimum to get it turned around.

Depending on when Wednesday Season 3 begins filming, a 2027 release is very plausible. If production is underway by the end of 2025 or even early 2026, then it’d be possible for it to be released on Netflix in a similar time of year to Season 2. A more realistic option – and perhaps better for the show, given its content and general vibe – would be to hold it for release a little closer to Halloween. If it’s two parts, that could be Part 1 in September and Part 2 in October.

Wednesday Season 3’s Cast: Who Is Likely To Return?

Most of Wednesday‘s main cast is likely to return for Season 3, with it largely intact after Season 2’s ending. The show will once again star Ortega as the eponymous character, though the actress will be in multiple projects before then. That includes Taika Waititi’s Sci-Fi movie Klara and the Sun, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, and a mystery J.J. Abrams movie alongside Glen Powell. Most of the Addams family members should be back as well, including Lumley, and likewise, we can expect Emma Myers’ Enid Sinclair to have a significant role.

The bigger questions lie over some of the supporting players. After Principal Dort’s death, we probably won’t be seeing Steve Buscemi back on the show. Similarly, Christina Ricci’s return to the Addams family world seems to have come to a permanent end. Billie Piper’s Isadora Capri should have an important role alongside Hunter Doohan’s Tyler Galpin. It remains to be seen if the show will once again find a way to bring back Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems or if Lady Gaga will return as Rosaline Rotwood.

Wednesday Season 3 Story: What Season 2 Sets Up

Wednesday Season 2’s ending resolved many of the mysteries that ran throughout the season. Slurp was revealed to be Isaac Night, an old friend of Gomez and the brother of Francoise, who herself is Tyler’s mother and a Hyde. After her death in the finale, Season 3 will follow more of Tyler’s journey as he attempts to come to better terms with what he really is and how he might be able to control it, something Isadora (whose father was a Hyde) is helping him with.

As for Wednesday herself, her story will begin away from Nevermore, as she and Uncle Fester are searching for Enid. Myers’ character was revealed to be an Alpha werewolf, and has crossed the border into Canada. Staying true to the series’ core focus of their friendship, it seems as though a big part of Season 3 will be Wednesday not only finding Enid, but helping her deal with the truth about what she is and ensuring she still has a place – and a friend – at Nevermore.

However, when Wednesday does return home, there will be more danger lurking for her. Season 2 finally reveals more about Ophelia, including that she has seemingly long been imprisoned at the Frump family home. The character is seen writing an ominous message on the wall, which looks set to be a major driving force behind Season 3’s story: “Wednesday must die.”

Wednesday Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
