All Elite Wrestling made its New York City debut on Wednesday night by selling out Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens for the AEW Grand Slam event. The show marks the first time a wrestling event has taken place in the iconic tennis venue (used annually for the US Open tournament), and the venue's unique setup not only gave AEW Dynamite a different feel but it ensured there wasn't a bad seat in the house for fans in attendance.
Fans were praising the look of the arena on social media as they filed in hours before the show, and that positive reaction continued once AEW Dynamite got underway. Check out some of the best reactions in the list below!
This CROWD and Omega vs. Danielson. MY GOD. This is professional wrestling, friends!— Brent Brookhouse (@brentbrookhouse) September 23, 2021
Tonight's AEW event will be attended by more than 20,000 people.
It will be the most highly-attended non-WWE pro wrestling event in the U.S. or Canada since July 5, 1999. That was for a WCW Nitro episode at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, attended by 25,000+.#AEWGrandSlam https://t.co/0IKGNnALUu pic.twitter.com/BLWH5y8T1Y— Brandon Thurston (@BrandonThurston) September 22, 2021
