The Many Looks Of John Cena

The face that runs the place has been at the top of WWE for some time, and you don’t get there without your look and gimmick undergoing some changes.

Like other superstars, Cena’s original look was, well, rather boring. Coming out of OCW as the Prototype, Cena sported a very of the moment haircut with nothing else really helping him to stand out. He would hit a major character milestone during the “Thuganomics” days, and eventually came to settle on his “Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect” mantra that he still represents to this day.

Even now, though, Cena is known to sport a variety of looks in the ring, hitting every color represented in the Crayola box. Whether you prefer him during his bodybuilder days, wearing a heavy chain around his neck, or dressing like his girlfriend Nikki Bella, there’s a lot to choose from, so hit the next slide to see some of ComicBook.com’s favorites over the years!

Cena will be appearing on next week’s airing of Miz TV (during Smackdown Live) to address Maryse’s actions against Nikki Bella. This should further the rumored feud that is expected to culminate in a tag style match between John Cena and Nikki Bella against The Miz and Maryse.

Bodybuilding Days

Before Cena started down his road to WWE, he actively participated in bodybuilding competitions.

 

OVW

Cena eventually made his way to OVW, WWE’s previous developmental division before NXT came around. This was during the time he was referred to as The Prototype.

 

Thuganomics (Blue Jersey)

It wasn’t until rapping on a bus in between shows that Cena would embrace his “Thuganomics” character, and he was frequently seen wearing sports jerseys and baseball caps.

 

Thuganomics (Champion)

He would eventually win championship gold during this period, and blinged out his newly won belt with a ton of gold and a spinner logo.

 

Doctor Mustache

Cena is a big fan of Halloween and dressing up, which seems like the best fit for this photo as a goofball doctor, complete with over the top mustache.

 

John Cena (Standard)

This is the look you’re probably most accustomed to. Cena often throws his shirt and hat to the audience as he walks down the ramp, opting for only keeping his armbands and wristbands for the actual match. Oh, and of course jorts. You have to have the jorts.

 

Vanilla Ice

What’s not ordinary is seeing Cena rocking a pompadour with blonde highlights. That’s what he did though one Halloween while impersonating Vanilla Ice.

 

Bloody

A rare behind the scenes picture shows Cena being treated for a head gash after a match. You don’t often see Cena bloody these days, so it’s a rare throwback.

 

Bright Yellow

Cena loves bright colors (as The Rock has always been apt to point out), and on a night he hoisted up championship gold again he rocked a bright yellow shirt that was impossible to miss.

 

Green

In addition to bright colors, Cena likes to keep the same design and just swich up the color scheme. He liked his previous shirt so much he just wanted it in green.

 

Bright Blue

He opted for a different shirt design but went with a bright blue color scheme instead.

 

Bright Orange

Going back to a previous design, Cena opted for an orange and black scheme instead.

 

Dumb And Dumber

For Halloween a few years back, Cena and girlfriend Nikki Bella decided to go as the pair from Dumb and Dumber. Needless to say, they nailed it!

 

Nikki Bella

Last year the two outdid themselves by going as each other for Halloween. Nikki rocked a traditional Cena-style cap, shirt, and shorts combo, while Cena opted for Nikki’s fearless gear, which included black shorts, red tanktop, and backward baseball cap.

Yeah, you’re welcome to try and get that image out of your mind now.

 

Gray And Pink

During Breast Cancer awareness month, the stars of the WWE will often incorporate some pink into their outfits. Cena is no different, sporting a pink baseball cap and gray and pink shirt to the ring with Dean Ambrose.

 

Blue And Black (United States Champion)

During his United States Championship run, Cena starting wearing a shirt that said “The Champ Is Here” with an arrow pointing to a replica of the United States belt. It didn’t have as much meaning though when he lost it.

 

Sisters (Drug Dealer)

In last year’s “Sisters” movie starring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, Cena starred as a drug dealer that Fey’s character attempts to seduce.

Cena is sporting multiple tattoos on his chest and neck in the role, though most will remember the part from how hilarious it was rather than his look.
