Kayfabe injuries are nothing new in the WWE, and even when someone is carted off in an ambulance the could very well be performing the very next night.

There were many fans who felt the recent announcement by Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Naomi was along those kayfabe lines. Naomi just won the Championship from Alexa Bliss at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, so an injury would be a way to elicit even more sympathy for the new champ.
It appears though that the injury is real, as the new champ did not participate at a recent Oakland house show that took place on Monday night (via IWNerd). Fans instead saw a handicap match starring Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella vs Natalya, Carmella, and Alexa Bliss. It’s important to note that in previous televised injuries, the “injured” superstar still wrestles at the live events. A perfect example of this is Sasha Banks, who is currently sporting a knee injury on television but still takes part in house shows.

Naomi tweeted about the small setback, saying: “Nothing will steal my GLOW an injury has never stopped me before and it won’t now #wweanaheim your #glowchamp.” From the picture, you can see it’s her left knee, but it appears to be a relatively minor injury at the moment, hence leaving her off of the live events.
Hopefully, Naomi will return to action soon, as it would be incredibly unfortunate to have to give up the title after she just claimed it. Naomi has been one of the most athletically gifted members of the women’s roster for some time, and no one wants to see her championship reign end because of an injury.
