Every Comic Book TV Show Nominated In The 2017 Emmys
The 69th Annual Emmy Awards are tonight, and they're shaping up to be a pretty nerdy affair. Genre [...]
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead continues to dominate the cultural landscape year after year, drawing in millions of viewers and a ton of buzz.
This year, the series is nominated for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup For A Series, Miniseries, Movie, Or A Special. The Walking Dead is no stranger to that award, having been nominated for it pretty consistently over the years, and even taking home the trophy in 2011 and 2012.
The particular episode up for consideration is the season seven premiere, 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be.' Considering the fan response to that episode - and particularly, the gruesome death scenes at the hands of Negan - that nomination is definitely warranted. If you'd like to get a very detailed (and disgusting) look at the episode's VFX makeup, you can check them out here and here.
(On a related note, Dave Chapelle was nominated for - and has already won - the Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for his Saturday Night Live episode. As The Walking Dead fans will probably remember, Chapelle actually parodied Negan's infamous kill scene in one of the episode's sketches.)

Another member of The Walking Dead family also received nominations in tonight's proceedings - the miniseries Fear The Walking Dead: Passage.
The series of small vignettes - which aired throughout The Walking Dead's seventh season - earned a nomination in Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series. One of the series' actresses, Kelsey Scott, received an Outstanding Actress nomination in that same category.
The action-packed series ended up winning over quite a few fans of the franchise, and was set to cross over with Fear The Walking Dead as well. If you missed out on the series when it first aired, a compilation of the first half of the episodes can be found here.
prevnextCon Man
While not technically based on a comic book property, Con Man definitely has a home in the geek culture world. The web series is created by Firefly and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's Alan Tudyk, and follows the various goings on of the convention circuit.
The show has stolen the hearts of plenty of nerds - largely thanks to its rotating ensemble of geek culture fan-favorites. Two of those actors - Tudyk, as well as Austin Powers' Mindy Sterling - earned nominations, in the Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series categories.
prevnextMarvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Slingshot
Another entry in this year's short-form content category is the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Slingshot.
The six-episode miniseries followed Yo-Yo Rodriguez/Slingshot (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) on an adventure to uncover her dark, dangerous past. The series scored an Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series nomination.
The series was a bonafide hit with Marvel fans, and went on to take home a Webby award earlier this year. With that in mind, it shouldn't surprise many that Slingshot scored an Emmy nod. If you'd like to check out the entire series, you can catch up on it here.
prevnextMarvel's Rocket & Groot
Another Marvel entry that scored a nomination at this year's proceedings is Marvel's Rocket & Groot. The adorable animated series was first announced back in 2016, and depicted the dynamic duo going on a series of adventures before joining the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Disney XD series earned a nomination for Outstanding Short Format Animated Program. You can check out all twelve episodes on Disney XD's Youtube channel.
prevnextTeen Titans Go!
Competing against Marvel's Rocket & Groot is the DC Comics-inspired Teen Titans Go!
The Cartoon Network animated series has provided young audiences everywhere with a colorful interpretation of the team for quite a while. But surprisingly, this is the series' first Emmy nomination, in the Outstanding Short Format Animated Program category.
prevnextLuke Cage
Going back to live-action nominations, Marvel's Luke Cage ended up earning a nod of its own.
The Marvel and Netflix series wowed many audiences when it debuted late last year, quickly becoming the site's biggest Marvel Television hit. The series - and it's stunt coordinator, James Lew - ended up winning the award for Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Drama Series, Miniseries, Or Movie.
Luke Cage is the second Marvel series to walk away with a trophy, following Jessica Jones' win this time last year.
prevnextGotham
And finally, the live-action comic book television series that earned the most nominations is Fox's Gotham.
The Batman prequel has grown on fans in the years since it's debut, and it's clear that it's had the same effect on Emmy voters as well. The series scored three nominations, in Outstanding Sound Design For A Series, Outstanding Stunt Coordination, and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
Gotham ended up walking away with a trophy as well, for the Special Effects work in the season three finale 'Heavydirtysoul'.
