Michael K. Williams Officially Cast in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story

Michael Kenneth Williams has officially joined the cast of Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (not final title) filming now, Lucasfilm announced Monday morning. The announcement came after rumors last week that he was in talks to join the film as an undisclosed character.

Early rumors suggest Williams will play a villain in the film, but like the announcements for Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge joining the cast, no character details were revealed about his role in the official announcement. Williams is best known for his roles on HBO, including Omar in The Wire, Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, and most recently in The Night Of, which also starred Riz Ahmed, one of the actors in the first Star Wars Story film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
