Riverdale's second season has begun - and it may have just set off a pretty big mystery.

MAJOR spoilers for tonight's Riverdale season premiere, 'A Kiss Before Dying', below. Only look if you want to know!

The second season premiere began with the aftermath of the shooting at Pop's, with the fate of Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) hanging in the balance. As the episode went on, Fred ended up surviving the attack - but the Man in the Black Hood quickly found another victim.

In the closing minutes of the episode, fans got a look at the new life of Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel), before she was promptly strangled by the Man in the Black Hood.

On the surface, these events might seem unconnected, especially when you consider Jughead's theory that the Lodge family ordered the hit on Fred. But now that the Man in the Black Hood killed Grundy, it's worth wondering - is he deliberately targeting people with ties to Archie Andrews (KJ Apa)?

That very well could be true, especially considering the seemingly random target of Ms. Grundy. It's currently too early on in the 22-episode season to know exactly why that would be happening - and knowing Riverdale, it would probably be a hell of an answer. That isn't to say that people don't have grudges with Riverdale's Pureheart the Powerful, as characters like Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) have displayed their animosity towards Archie since season one.

Either way, fans can expect to see a new side of Archie as the mystery unfolds, and as the Man in the Black Hood's threat possibly grows stronger.

"What happened to Fred changes Archie's life and sets him on his hero's journey, but as always with Riverdale, it's not a bright, fun journey." Aguirre-Sacasa told ComicBook.com after the season one finale. "It's a journey towards darkness, towards revenge, towards violence. The real question is, is Archie going to make that turn toward heroism? I think Archie was raised very well by Fred and that his basic nature is very good, but we're really going to discover a different side of Archie in season 2."

Riverdale season two airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
