When making movies not all of the footage makes it to the theatrical cut. Some scenes end up cut for time or story purposes while others might be reshot entirely. Sometimes these extra scenes end up getting new life when the movies are released on DVD and when it comes to Thor: Ragnarok, fans may already know one of those deleted scenes.

Thor: Ragnarok spoilers below.

During the production of Thor: Ragnarok set photos revealed a few scenes filmed in New York City. The photos, which spoiled the return of Anthony Hopkins as Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) father Odin, also featured the Asgardian king dressed in street clothes and looking as though he had been living on the streets of the Big Apple since his banishment from Asgard by Loki. That scene does not appear at all in the theatrical version of Thor: Ragnarok and another scene that was filmed in a similar location made a dramatic change as well.

Right before Thor: Ragnarok opened in theaters, teasers for the film showed a change in the location of where Hela (Cate Blanchett) crushes Thor's Mjolnir. Originally the scene took place in an alley in what was presumed to be New York City -- just like the scenes with Odin -- but in the final cut instead took place in a placid field which is also where Odin returns.

The location change was something that director Taika Waititi explained was designed to impart more gravity to the scene, particularly when it came to the emotional magnitude of the moment.

"We wanted to go somewhere peaceful and actually chill out with those characters and be with Odin while he imparts this wisdom and stuff and not have to hear stupid yellow cabs honking out the back," Waititi said.

With Odin's return being so important to the overall story told in Thor: Ragnarok giving Odin's wisdom a chance to resonate without having to compete with city noises makes sense, but hopefully fans will have an opportunity to see this other version of Odin after the film makes its theater run as a deleted scene later on.

Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters now.
