Dragon Ball Super isn't adverse to fusion fighters, but plenty of fans didn't see the anime's latest debut coming. The show's most recent episode introduced a new fusion, and the surprising team-up nearly cost Piccolo his life.

The 118th episode of Dragon Ball Super was released this weekend, and it followed Gohan and Piccolo as they fought the Namekians of Universe 6. Pirina and Saoneru vowed they would keep their home from being destroyed, and they revealed their ultimate secret to uphold that promise. After powering up, it was Piccolo who noticed the Namekians had extensive experience with their race's fusion technique.

During Piccolo's battle with Pirina, the Universe 7 hero called out the Namekians for their fusion-friendly power. It was there Pirina revealed he and Saoneru had fused with dozens of their brethren ahead of the Tournament of Power to grow stronger.

"The ability for Namekians to become one and gain further power, Namekian Fusion. Upon learning of our universe's peril, many of our people from Namek volunteered," Pirina explained. "As their representatives, we absorbed all their power to fight in this tournament."

Saoneru also chimed in, saying, "Until our powered up bodies stabilized, we avoided aggressive fighting to save our strength for late in the tournament. But now that the time has come, we're the only warriors left."

While the Namekian Fusion did not make the Universe 6 members look any different, it did multiply their power extensively. Fans knew from Piccolo's merge with Nail and Kami that the fusion technique is a powerful one, and Universe 6 was no different on that front. Pirina and Saoneru were able to take on Ultimate Gohan at the Saiyan's full power, but Piccolo ultimately got an upper-hand over the duo. A well-time Kamehameha and Special Beam Canon sent the Namekians out of bounds, and Universe 6 was left to its unavoidable destruction for losing the tournament.
