Tatsuki Fujimoto’s series was one of the most talked-about anime adaptations of 2022, introducing countless new fans straight into Denji’s chaotic world of devil hunting. This shift has left fans thinking about all the untapped stories within Chainsaw Man’s wild cast of characters. Every devil, hunter, and hybrid feels like they could hold up an entire series on their own, with backstories that are just begging to be explored. So the real question is, who deserves their own spinoff next?

Aki Hayakawaย

When it comes to Chainsaw Man, Aki Hayakawa is easily one of the most tragic and layered characters, which is exactly why he deserves his own spinoff. We only get glimpses of his past in the main story, but there’s still so much left to uncover. Those untold years of Aki’s life are filled with so many potential stories, from his early training days to watching his heart slowly harden as he learns to survive as a Devil Hunter.

A spinoff focusing on Aki could finally let us see his transformation up close, especially how the Gun Devil massacre, where he saw his house being destroyed and his family being killed, turned him into the warrior we know and love today. Exploring his bond with Himeno would be just as important; how it began, what their lives were like before and during their time as Devil Hunters, the sacrifice she made by giving her body to the Ghost Devil to save Aki in Episode 8, and maybe even a few lighter moments between them. Filling in these gaps would elevate Akiโ€™s already heartbreaking arc and remind fans why Aki is one of Chainsaw Manโ€™s most loved characters.

Chainsaw Man’s cast includes many characters with untold backstories, but no one holds more secrets than Quanxi, the First Devil Hunter. Her calm demeanor and strength suggest a lifetime of battles that go back to the earliest days of devil hunting, making her the perfect choice for a spinoff. A spinoff centered on Quanxi could show us how everything really began, from the rise of Public Safety to the very first deals humans made with devils.

But Quanxiโ€™s story wouldnโ€™t just be about her; it could also serve as the origin tale for the whole Chainsaw Man world. Through her journey, we could witness other events like the Gun Devilโ€™s attacks, how she assembled her harem, her complicated relationship with Kishibe, the truth behind how she got her hybrid form, and even explore the events that led her to leave the Public Safety Devil Hunters. A spinoff like this would also let Fujimoto expand on other characters like Himeno, reveal more of Makima’s past, and show how the current devil-hunting system came to be, all while keeping Quanxi at the center of it all.

Makima

Chainsaw Man focuses less on the “who” of Makima and more on the “what” of her character, leaving us with only small hints about the villainโ€™s past. Early on, even her powers and goals were largely unknown, and itโ€™s only later that fans learn that sheโ€™s the Control Devil. Keeping her backstory so secretive makes her even scarier, because we just donโ€™t know what turned her into such a cold and manipulative figure.

A Makima spin-off could finally give us the answers about her past and show us exactly how she turned into the villain we know. Fans could see her early days with the Japanese government, her first encounters with other devils, and how she slowly became obsessed with wanting to take control of Chainsaw Man’s power so that she could take absolute control over the world. The most fascinating part of that spinoff would be watching how someone who genuinely cares for dogs could view people as disposable, and discovering what kind of upbringing created a monster who sees love and control as the same thing.
