Fairy Tail’s 545th chapter had a lot of content to cover, but the series didn’t tie up all its storylines. Its final pages saw Natsu and Happy meet up with Lucy at her apartment. The Celestial Wizard starts up a touching moment with Natsu, but the Dragon Slayer rushes her out of her house, saying, “We should get to work!!!”
The next page sees the trio meet up with some familiar faces. Erza, Gray, Wendy, and Carla are shown waiting for Natsu to meet up with them.
“I told you I wanted to do something after the fight ended,” Natsu says. “I finally got permission. A 100 Year Quest!! I’m fired up!!!”
The team parts ways with readers as Natsu takes charge of the mission. The Fairy Tail chapter doesn’t give away any more information than that, so it’s open ending has got fans thinking Mashima may return to Fairy Tail in the future.
After all, the creator has said he doesn’t feel completely finished with the series. Mashima took to Twitter to tell fans he still has plans for the franchise.
“Even though the original manga is ending,” he wrote. “I don’t think Fairy Tail is done just yet. I have a lot of plans, so please look forward to them.”
Mashima may be taking a well-deserved break to focus on his new projects, but Fairy Tail may be spinning new storylines in his head. It may take years for the artist to pick back up with Natsu, but Mashima has set himself up to revisit the Fairy Tail guild should he like. And, of course, fans would be happy to see franchise return whenever Mashima feels ready.
