A year after Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending, Gege Akutami released a sequel series titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which is being illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki. The sequel began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump, the same magazine as the original story, and plans to publish approximately three volumes over the next six months. The story takes place in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game. The world is far from peaceful, even after the deaths of Sukuna and Kenjaku, as curse spirits and curse users continue to haunt the world to this day. The powers Jujutsu sorcerers possess are far from natural, and it’s surprisingly similar to Simurians, an alien race.

The aliens have noticed that such powers exist on Earth, and 50,000 of them have invaded the planet as refugees. They hide their true identities and have blended into human society. The protagonist, Maru, short for Marulu Val Vol Yelvori, is also a Simurian who is working with the Jujutsu sorcerers as an inspector. He meets Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin’s grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi, on a mission related to the disappearance of children. While the debut chapter is only just setting up the premise of this short manga, we get the first hint about Ryomen Sukuna’s origins.

Everything about Sukuna, including his name, is shrouded in mystery, even though the original story has long ended. Sukuna was born with two heads, four eyes, four arms, and marks all over his body that could hardly be described as human. As a sorcerer, he wasn’t just powerful, but he was akin to a deity or a natural disaster. Sukuna is inspired by a character in Japanese mythology, but that doesn’t explain his appearance or powers in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Although Sukuna’s unusual body was supposed to be the result of consuming his twin brother in his womb, that still doesn’t explain the origins of his marks. The sequel, however, may be planning to answer some major questions about the villain since the aliens have similar marks to him. They also have more than two eyes, which again draws some similarity with the villain. Although even if Sukuna has some kind of connection with the aliens, he is still much more powerful than they are. The invasion of 50,000 aliens was considered a threat on an equal level to Sukuna.

The sequel has only just begun, and the only hint we have about Sukuna being related to them is his unusual physique and marks on his body. However, considering that Modulo keeps mentioning the characters and the plotlines from the original story, we may learn why extraterrestrial beings and an ancient sorcerer are so similar.
