Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel Is Already Weighed Down By One of the Series’ Biggest Problems

Jujutsu Kaisen is now back in action with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with a brand new sequel, and that sequel is unfortunately already being held down by one of the original series’ biggest issues. Gege Akutami wrapped up Jujutsu Kaisen‘s run last year, and it really took fans by surprise in just how quickly it all seemed to end. It’s left fans hungry for more ever since, and that more finally arrived in the form of a brand new sequel taking place years after the events of the original series. But there’s some issues already in with just two chapters.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the official title for the new sequel series, has released just two chapters since it kicked off its run with Shonen Jump earlier this month and while the series itself has started to expand out to a much wider world, there’s a bit of a nagging issue. It’s the same one that ultimately brought down the first series as there are still multiple leaks and more “revealing” the events of the latest chapters before they’re officially released. And if that doesn’t change soon, Jujutsu Kaisen‘s sequel will face the same fate as the original.

Although the latest chapters of each Shonen Jump release are now being released outside of Japan on the very same day their make their debuts, there are still multiple readers in these international territories who are reading leaked versions of these chapters before their official reveals. This was the case for especially notable and popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, which always had its biggest events leaked onto social media websites before the chapters were officially made available. It made keeping up with new chapters tougher for those interested, and even had an impact on enjoying the events of the anime for many.

It was tough to invest in any particular character Jujutsu Kaisen fans would see in the anime, only to find out that they died in the latest chapter of the series before it was even officially released. It’s not that the spoiler was hard to avoid, it’s that the spoiler was there before it was even supposed to be (and thus hard to keep out with hashtags and more). That was the case for this series as well as not only was the sequel announcement supposed to be a shock, but the idea of a sequel was all over social media even as more fans wait to see what’s next for the anime.

Will This Hurt Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel?

If this ultimately doesn’t change, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is going to lose its momentum. One of the benefits of Shonen Jump’s current era is that while it has been cancelling a lot of series, many of its newer works are finding their fans at a steady rate without leaks or early releases. Some of these newer hits like Kagurabachi had fans actively pushing against these leaks, and supported its legal releases. This is the only way to truly support your favorite manga or anime releases, and that will harm a newer series like this one in the long run.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is already going to be fighting an uphill battle as the sequel will always be compared to the original series, and those comparisons are only going to get more intense as the sequel continues. But it also needs as easy of a battle as it can be as leaks will only separate its audience further. Those who read the chapters before they’re supposed to will be trapped in their own bubble and won’t be able to interact with those who read them legally. And a separated fanbase isn’t a strong one by any means.
