The "Whole Cake Island" arc has been a definitive fan favorite in One Piece, and all of the moving parts are seemingly heading to their climax. The last we saw of the Straw Hats in the manga, the Thousand Sunny was stuck in a perilous situation.

Stuck in the vice grip of the Charlotte Family ships and an increasingly aggravated Big Mom, the Thousand Sunny was put in a ton of danger as Big Mom eventually finds her way onto it by the end of Chapter 889.

Despite Jinbe's great steering skills, and Carrot's transformation into a Su Long thanks to the power of the full moon, things got dicey fast. Since Carrot could not hold her new power for long without losing her sense of self, she had to essentially "power down" by covering her eyes from the moon and stowing away in a dark corner of the ship.

She managed to take out a good chunk of Big Mom's fleet, with some added help from the ultra light Brook who ran over the water, but it still wasn't enough once Big Mom's main weapons, Prometheus and Zeus, caught up to her.

Since Big Mom had been starving for cake for so long and hasn't eaten anything else in her manic state, she takes on a form the rest of the Charlotte family had yet to see. This fearsome, thinner physique gave her an impressive agility, and the ability to ride Zeus. With this power, Big Mom dons a crown a flame and lands on the Thousand Sunny.

As Big Mom towers over the frightened Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Jinbe -- and with Luffy still stuck fighting Katakuri in the mirror world and Sanji still trying to get the replacement wedding cake to her -- Jinbe declares that they might even have to abandon the Thousand Sunny if the situation calls for it. Fans are still waiting to see what kind of threat a thinner Big Mom poses, but it will surely not be good for the Straw Hats.

Eiichiro Oda also revealed some upcoming news for One Piece's future at Jump Festa 2018. Not only will the manga see Wano sooner rather than later, the next villain of the series is "one of the legends which lurks in the One Piece world. The greatest enemy ever for Straw Hats will hinder their way...Can you believe Marineford Summit War will look 'cute' compared to that?"

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece first began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. It has been collected into 87 volumes, with a few chapters yet to be included. It has been a critical and commercial success worldwide with many of the volumes breaking printing records in Japan. The manga has even set a Guinness World Record for the most copies published for the same comic book by a single author, and is the best selling manga series worldwide with 430 million copies sold worldwide.

One Piece is currently in the middle of the "Whole Cake Island" arc and is now streaming on Crunchyroll and FunimationNOW.
