Despite only having one season to its name, Over The Garden Wall has become one of the biggest animated original stories in Cartoon Network’s history. Every fall, the story of Gregory and Wirt is routinely revisited worldwide, with fans continuing to praise the series to this day. Recently, the first Blu-Ray edition of the beloved animated series finally arrived, offering fans the chance to own a physical copy of the show that introduced us to “The Unknown.” Later this year, the half-brothers are set to return in a new art book that will take fans deeper into the supernatural landscape.

Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition has been promoted by Dark Horse Comics, as the latest physical edition honoring the animated series is set for a tentative release in February 2027. While there was an original art book focusing on Wirt and Greg’s Cartoon Network series, this expanded edition is planning to include thirty additional pages to travel deeper into the Unknown. The expanded edition is planning to include new cast interviews, a closer look at the recent stop-motion short made by Aardman Animation, artwork from the various comic book series, and more. The art book is also set to include a new foreword from Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch, making for quite the animated tribute all around. You can check out more details below.
Will The Unknown Return?
To this day, there haven’t been any hints that Over The Garden Wall will ever receive an official sequel, which makes sense considering the conclusive ending that was shown during the series finale. Gregory and Wirt returned home, and nearly every character introduced within the Unknown found an ending suitable for their tales. Despite this fact, the mini-series has become a big part of the fall and Halloween season, as animation fans will still routinely revisit the series to welcome autumn. Thanks to each episode only being around eleven minutes in length, the ten-episode series can easily be consumed in one sitting, helping to make it a breezy rewatch for many.
Creator Patrick McHale might not ever plan to expand on this world, but Greg and Wirt did have quite a few original stories thanks to comic book publisher Boom! Studio. Most of the stories focused on the brothers travelling through the Unknown, with the likes of Hollow Town, Distillatoria, Circus Friends, Soulful Symphonies, and The Benevolent Sisters of Charity arriving long after the 2014 release. The last comic book of the series was released in 2020, and while no new comic has been announced, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Greg and Wirt made a comeback on the comic stands.
