Sanrio is home of some of the cutest characters of all time, including the most well known Hello Kitty. Every once and awhile the company teams up with other popular characters to give them a kawaii twist. This year is the 25th anniversary of the most popular magical girls of all time, and to and to celebrate Sanrio teamed up to give her a makeover. Get ready for cuteness overload because Sailor Moon gets drawn Hello Kitty style with the Sailor Moon x My Melody collaboration.

The Sailor Moon 25th anniversary twitter revealed the team up with a picture of Sailor Moon and My Melody in adorable Sanrio style on Twitter. The picture shows off the characters with Sparkles, stars, ribbons giant glossy eyes, and all things cute.

The image above is just the beginning, as this adorable team up is going to be featured on goods and merchandise as well. While there is currently no specific details, the line of Sailor Moon 25th Anniversary merchandise will feature goods such as bags, stuffed animals, towels, and stationary sets. The goods will be available in Sanrio shops and the company’s official website starting in August.

My Melody is one of the three original characters from Sanrio. The little rabbit girl was first released in 1975, and has been going strong on Sanrio merchandise ever since. The two characters may have more in common than meets the eye. As Sailor Moon‘s name is Usagi, which means rabbit in Japanese. The team up of the two adorable characters was destined to come, and what better time than a 25th anniversary.

Sailor moon’s first anime debuted in 1992 thanks to original story and characters by Naoko Takeuchi when Nakayoshi. Now 25 years later, Sailor Moon stands as one of the most influential shojo series ever created, and it popularized the magical girl sub-genre with fans all over the world. If you want to celebrate, Sailor Moon’s big anniversary, the original series is available to stream on Hulu, and they describe the series below:
