Everybody picks their Pokemon partners for their own reasons. Some people pick a Pokemon because it has amazing stats or a unique move that only it can learn. Others tend to prefer a specific type of Pokemon, choosing only Grass or Fire Pokemon as they play through the games. But more often than not, people choose their Pokemon because they think the Pokemon is cute.

Of the 800 known Pokemon species, more than half easily falls into the “cute” category. Some Pokemon, like Bulbasaur, are cute because they have a personality people can relate to. Other Pokemon, like Pikachu, are cute because they look cuddly. And some Pokemon, like Squirtle, are cute because they look totally non-threatening and couldn’t possibly beat down another person’s Pokemon in battle.
We’ve examined all the Pokemon and come up with a list of what we feel are the cutest five Pokemon in the games. Let us know what you think in the comments!
Shaymin
First introduced in 2008, Shaymin is a cute little grass hedgehog with a penchant for beautiful Gracidea flowers. Shaymin acts a natural antipollutant, it’s body naturally dissolves toxins in the air and can transformed arid land into beautiful fields of flowers. Plus, when someone hugs Shaymin, flowers will bloom all over its body in gratitude.ย
Butย Shaymin isn’t just cute, it’s also a powerful Mythical Pokemon! Shaymin can switch from its unassuming Land Forme to a Sky Forme that allows it to fly through the sky and boosts its attack and speed stats. Plus, it can use the powerful Seed Flare attack that can leave opponents reeling and defenseless.ย
A perfect mix of cuteness and bite, Shaymin is a must have Pokemon!

Vulpix
Vulpix is one of the old school “cute” Pokemon and has captured the hearts of Pokemon for over 20 years. With expressionless orange eyes, six tails, and a curly tuff of fur on its head, everyone wanted a Vulpix, even if it didn’t have great stats.ย
Vulpix was a featured Pokemon in the original anime series, given to Brock by one of his lady friends after the Pokemon took a liking to him. Brock groomed and pampered Vulpix for several seasons, until Vulpix’s original owner came back for it.ย
Recently, the Pokemon Company revealed that Vulpix had an alternate forme found only in the Alola region. Unlike normal Vulpix, the Alolan Vulpix is an Ice type with unblemished white fur. It’s just as cute as the original, though!

Buneary
If Game Freak’s current pattern holds, we could soon see a remake ofย Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which represent the start of the fourth generation of Pokemon games. That means we could soon see Buneary make a grand comeback in relevance. Buneary is an adorable rabbit-like Pokemon with floppy ears and fuzzy puffs of cream-colored fur on its legs and ears.
Ash’s companion Dawn had a Buneary in theย Pokemon: Diamond and Pearlย anime series. Dawn’s Buneary constantly threw herself at Pikachu and even wore cutesy cheerleader outfits to cheer Pikachu on during gym battles. You can’t get much more adorable thanย Pokemon in a cheerleader outfit.

Mimikyu
Earlier this year, the Pokemon universe fell in love with Mimikyu, a sad little Ghost/Fairy Pokemon that wore a shabby Pikachu costume because it just wanted to be loved like the famous Pokemon mascot. It was the perfect Pokemon for the 20th anniversary of the franchise: an adorable reminder just how oversaturated and over exposed Pikachu really is. Mimikyu even got a cute Japanese theme song, in which it sang about how it just wanted friends.
Sadly, theย Pokemon Sun and Moonย anime ruined all that by turning Mimikyu into a bloodthirsty hateful machine. Jessie’s new Mimikyu HATES Pikachu and constantly mutters evil comments about Ash’s beloved companion under his breath. Meowth’s the only one who can understand Mimikyu, so he is understandably freaked out whenever he’s around the Ghost Pokemon. Mimikyu even scored a decisive victory over Pikachu recently and would have LITERALLY killed the electric rodent if not for outside intervention.ย
So Mimikyu is pretty darn cute, but also terrifying.ย
ย
Togepi
The original baby Pokemon, Togepi defined cuteness for an entire generation of Pokemon. With the exception of its unpredictable Metronome attack, Togepi is all but useless in battle. However, it’s basically a walking and talking egg, so people love to carry and hold it anyways.ย
Togepiย traveled around with Ash for months, long before it appeared in a Pokemon game. Although Ash technically found Togepi as an egg, the cute baby Pokemon chose Misty as its new trainer. Misty constantly carried Togepi wherever she went, making it the second Pokemon of their group to never be in its PokeBall. Togepi later evolved into a Togetic, which is nowhere near as cute as its baby form.
