If it’s at all possible, it sounds like Guardians of the Galaxy’s “Awesome Mix” is about to get even Awesome-er.
According to director James Gunn, the soundtrack to his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will actually trump the musical wizardry displayed in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. When speaking to reporters during Avengers: Age of Ultron’s red carpet premiere earlier this week, Gunn revealed that the challenge of topping Awesome Mix Vol. 1 actually intimidated him more than Guardians sequel itself.

“Originally people kept asking me, ‘Don’t you feel a lot of pressure to do the second movie?’ and I didn’t in general,” Gunn told ETonline. “But I did feel a little pressure for the soundtrack because so many people loved it and we went platinum and all that other stuff. But I feel like the soundtrack in the second one is better. I feel like it’s better, so I’m excited about it.”
Better than the one-two punch of Blue Swede and The Raspberries? Good luck with that.
Gunn also revealed that he’s about to enter the thick of Guardians 2’s script, which, thankfully will include a brand new dance groove for one of the characters.
“I’m not going to say whose dance moves,” Gunn teased, “but we’re going to see one particular character’s dance moves.”
The second helping of dancing and Awesome Mix arrives when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
