What New Comics Characters Are Coming To TV This Fall?

As the fall television season draws near, networks are starting to leak information about all of your favorite comic book television shows.

There are a ton of new characters ready to appear this fall, many of which are well known to comic book fans.

If you are struggling to keep track of who is about to appear on what show, ComicBook.com is here to help.

From classic characters like Superman and Ghost Rider to lesser known characters like Wild Dog or Cottonmouth, we’ve compiled a handy list of all the new characters appearing on your favorite comic book TV shows this season.

Keep in mind, these are only the characters confirmed by either the networks or producers and there will probably be more reveals as we inch closer to the start of the fall season.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is subtitled “Ghost Rider” for a reason. The Spirit of Vengeance will be a featured character in the upcoming season, and will be played by Gabriel Luna. 

Marvel has a few different Ghost Riders running around its universe, so fans might not recognize Robbie Reyes, the newest Spirit of Vengeance who Marvel introduced in 2014. Reyes is a bit different than the other Ghost Riders in that he drives a black muscle car instead of a motorcycle, and is bonded to the soul of his murderous deceased uncle instead of a demon. However, Reyes still has the trademark flaming skull and hellfire, so fans should be pretty happy.

In addition to Robbie Reyes, Marvel also cast Lorenzo Henrie as Robbie’s younger brother Gabe. Gabe helps to keep Robbie’s darker impulses from taking over and also gives Robbie his motivation for cleaning up their Los Angeles neighborhood. 

Mallory Jansen will also appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as the life model decoy AIDA, and Jason O’Mara will play S.H.I.E.L.D’s new director, who also allegedly has roots in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel’s Luke Cage

The newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce a ton of classic Luke Cage characters to Netflix users, but none are more important than Misty Knight. A New York detective, Misty lost her right arm when a man threw a bomb into a crowd. Tony Stark gave her a superpowered bionic arm, and Misty went into business as a private detective. Luke Cage‘s version of Knight (played by Simone Missick) still has her police badge (and both arms), so we’ll see if she faces a surprise tragedy on the show.

Several classic Cage villains will also appear in some fashion on the show, including Cottonmouth, Shades, and Diamondback. Diamondback (no relationship to the Captain America villain) was the man who framed Cage for drug trafficking and had him sent to prison. Cottonmouth was the Harlam drug lord whose drugs were planted in Cage’s home, and Shades is a criminal who was imprisoned and tortured alongside Cage. Cottonmouth will be Luke Cage‘s primary villain and will be played by Mahershala Ali, Shades will be played by Theo Rossi, and Erik LaRay Harvey will play Diamondback. 

Alfre Woddard will also appear on Luke Cage as a reimagined version of Black Mariah. The comic version of Black Mariah is a New York crime lord, but the television version will be a local politician dragged into the brewing war between Cottonmouth and Cage. 

 

Supergirl

Supergirl is adding a ton of big name DC characters as it moves to its new home in the CW. The biggest character, of course, is Superman, played by former Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin. Superman will visit Kara for at least two episodes this season and producers have teased that a possible conflict between Supergirl and her more famous cousin.

Two other heroes are also appearing on Supergirl next season. Mon-El (played by Chris Wood) is a childhood friend of Superman who comes from Daxam, a neighboring planet of Krypton. Mon-El has many of the same abilities as Superman and was a childhood friend and inspiration to Superboy. After an accident left him with fatal lead poisoning, Mon-El was trapped in the Phantom Zone until the 30th century and eventually became a major part of the Legion of Superheroes.

The other hero appearing on Supergirl is Miss Martian, a reformed White Martian mentored by Martian Manhunter. While she’s a teen hero in the DC universe, Supergirl‘s Miss Martian will be played by adult actress Sharon Leal and is hinted to have a romantic connection with Martian Manhunter. 

Other DC characters appearing on the show include Lex Luthor’s younger sister Lena, the classic DC villain Metallo, the ex-Justice League mascot Snapper Carr and detective Maggie Sawyer. 

 

The Flash

The real stars of The Flash are the Rogues, and this season will introduce a mix of classic and lesser known villains to the DC Television Universe this year. The show’s two big bads are Savitar and Doctor Alchemy. Doctor Alchemy is a classic Flash villain, first appearing way back in 1958, while Savitar is a speedster who attempted to steal the Flash’s speed in the 1990s. 

Savitar isn’t the only speedster zooming into Central City this year. The Rival, a Golden Age speedster who fought Jay Garrick, will appear in the alternate “Flashpoint” universe created by Barry when he traveled back in time to save his mother. If he somehow fixes the timeline, Barry will also have to face the likes of Mirror Master and the Top, both of whom have fought the Flash many times in the comics.

Arrow

Oliver and Felicity are training a new generation of superheroes, which will include a mix of new and familiar faces. Joining Mr. Terrific and Evelyn Sharp (who will take up the codename Artemis) will be the new vigilantes Wild Dog, Ragman, and the superhero Vigilante. 

Ragman is the best-known of the heroes, a mystic superhero named Rory Regan who wears a suit of rags that traps the souls of criminals. Ragman can call upon the souls in his suit to augment his strength and speed. Ragman will be played on Arrow by Joe Dinicol.

Unlike Ragman, neither Vigilante nor Wild Dog have powers. Both have similarly violent temperaments and began fighting crime after their loved ones were killed by mobsters. Wild Dog usually carries a submachine gun and electroshock gloves, while Vigilante uses a variety of lethal and non-lethal weaponry.  Wild Dog will be played by Rick Gonzalez, and Vigilante will be played by Josh Segarra. 

Green Arrow and his new team of vigilantes will face off against a new version of Prometheus, a Justice League supervillain who can download different fighting styles directly into his brain. Arrow producers have stated that Prometheus will have little similarity to his comic book counterpart. 

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

The Justice Society of America is coming to Legends of Tomorrow this season. After Hourman arrived in a time ship during last season’s finale, several other classic JSA members will also appear on Legends of Tomorrow this fall. The cosmic staff wielding Stargirl, the shadow manipulator Obsidian, and Dr. Mid-Nite are all confirmed and other heroes may appear later in the year.

The Legends team will also recruit replacements for the departed Hawkgirl and the deceased Captain Cold. Vixen (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers) will join the team from the 1940s, while Citizen Steel (played by Nick Zano) will join the team from the present day. The Legends of Tomorrow version of Vixen is the grandmother of Mari McCabe, the modern day Vixen, while Citizen Steel is the grandson of Justice Society member Commander Steel. 

 

 

The Walking Dead

We don’t know much about The Walking Dead‘s seventh season, but we do know that Ezekiel and his tigers will appear to help Rick in his war against the Saviors. Ezekiel is a fan favorite character and the ruler of The Kingdom, a smaller community located near the Hilltop and Alexandria. Ezekiel was a zookeeper who rescued the tiger Shiva after the zombie outbreak began, and moved to a high school in the outskirts of Washington DC. 

Ezekiel becomes a key ally to Rick and eventually begins a relationship with Michonne in the comics.

Ezekiel will be played by Khary Payton this season.
