8 Villains We Want To See in the Future of Ultimate Spider-Man

With the announcement that Ultimate Spider-Man by Hickman and Checchetto is ending in December, fans are distraught. The series has been a fanfavorite and many are theorizing that the end isn’t truly the end of the story, suspecting that Marvel will use the end to set up a new number one on the near horizon. But while nothing has been announced, we’re also speculating about what villains we might like to see in Ultimate Spider-Man in the future. The run has been incredible run so far, but there are only a handful of villains we’ve seen in the title to date and we want more. It’s a pretty reasonable wishlist too, not asking for anybody too major, just some of the more classic rogues and maybe a few deep cuts as well.

Here are eight villains we’d like to see in Ultimate Spider-Man. And even if the story really is completely done in December, we can all agree on one thing: it’s all somehow Paul Rabin’s fault.

1) Vulture

Appearing as early as Amazing Spider-Man #2, Vulture has a long history with the Web-head. A master of flight technology and always on the verge of death, I’m shocked we haven’t seen him appear yet. Not sure what they would do with him exactly but knowing how Ultimate Spider-Man has been making changes to iconic characters, it probably won’t be Adrain Toomes.

To really throw off, the Ultimate Spider-Man version could be the Raniero Drago Vulture just to give us something different. With how much they’ve changed in the title this would be no different. Either way, we’d love to see how Checchetto would draw Vulture in his style,;he’d look glorious.

2) Electro

Electro using his powers

With no favors done by The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Electro has long been one of Spidey’s best enemies. With the ability to electrocute and manipulate electricity and lighting, Electro would be fun to see here. He’s another I’m surprised we haven’t seen quite yet in the title.

If Peter still had his nanotech suit, having Electro mess with it would have made for an interesting fight and would have gotten the lightweight one that way too. Not a missed opportunity, but a fun “what if” if you will. All we know for sure is that we would love to see him as part of Ultimate Spider-Man, whether he’s blue or not (and hopefully not Red Skull’s son.)

3) Chameleon

With Kraven already in the book, we’re holding out hope for Chameleon to appear as well. This iteration probably would end up as a shapeshifter, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing. The idea of a copycat running around in a Spider-Man book is an essential story for the hero and it would be great for it to happen here. Unless people end up thinking Richard is Peter, that is.

With the status of his brother up for debate, we could always see Chameleon later on as well. Another fun take would be to give him some of Kraven’s skills, too. There are a lot of fun options with an Ultimate Spider-Man take on this villain for sure.

4) Rhino

Rhino and Spider-Man fighting out on the streets of New York City in The Amazing Spider-Man #1

Another victim of a bad movie adaptation, Rhino busts into our list Kool-Aid man style. He had a great redesign in the original Ultimate Spider-Man as well as some mutant hybrid types. While I’d imagine he’s probably be some sort of creature, I just wanna see the guy give this Peter some trouble this time around.

Rhino has long been one of the goofiest villains of Spider-Man that just works for whatever reason that may be. Busting through about anything, a new take on the character could really make things interesting.

5) Scorpion

While no one wants a mutant hybrid thing of Rhino, Scorpion is a different case. He’s usually just been tech the whole time and is always a fun villain to see. Even with his early connection to Jameson, it would be interesting to see if that would be dropped here for someone else. Not a character that you need to reinvent the wheel for as it is, Mac Gargan has been missed in Ultimate Spider-Man.

What his purpose with Spider-Man would be here would also be a fun thing to explore. He’d likely just be a simple thief, but as they say if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. I’d also be curious to see what his poisonous stinger would be like here as well.

6) Hobgoblin

Forever one of Peter’s best enemies despite the drama behind the scenes, Hobgoblin is another fan favorite enemy of the web-head. Of course he’d have to be different due to to Harry’s story here, but that itself opens up a lot of possibilities. Maybe this version would be a copycat type of scenario who ends up forced to change.

It might also be interesting to make him the full on evil one since Harry isn’t at this point. Having at least one evil Goblin against the Spider is missed in this continuity for sure. Whatever they do end up doing we just have one request: don’t make him Ned Leeds, it didn’t work in the past and it still rubs fans the wrong way.

7) Carnage

Absolute Carnage reaching forward with savage glee

While his longtime frenemy Eddie Brock has the symbiote right now, Carnage would be fun to see in Ultimate Spider-Man. How it would work? With how the symbiotes go in every universe a good guess is that he’d be a suit similar to Peter’s, but anything is possible.

Whether or not we’re getting more symbiotes is up in the air right now but Carnage would have to be next on the list. Unless we get Toxin or Anti-Venom first, Carnage just seems like an obvious choice.

8) Tombstone

As much as Amazing Spider-Man fans are going to be irritated by this placement, Tombstone is popular now more than ever. Despite the mess that is Zeb Wells’ run on Amazing Spider-Man, one thing he got right was how he handled Tombstone. While the ending of such wasn’t great, he still managed to be terrifying and ruthless most of the way through.

Likely another villain that would be a mutant, Tombstone could be a perfect rival boss to Kingpin in Ultimate Spider-Man. He always is, but Kingpin doesn’t appear to have any rivals in this reality so there’s opportunity. Whatever they were to do, Tombstone throwing down with 6160 Peter would be a sight to see.
