The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have teamed up with some of the biggest icons in the world, thanks to crossovers with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Batman, and the Ghostbusters, to name a few. That said, few crossovers have the potential to be as epic in scale as IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles X Godzilla, and you can start getting hyped right now thanks to ComicBook’s exclusive preview of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles X Godzilla #2, which gives us our first look at a truly radical transformation.

While the Turtles have faced no shortage of challenges over the years, this could prove to be their most intense battle yet, just in sheer scale alone. Shredder has set Godzilla and an army of Kaiju loose on the world, as he secretly plots to develop his own new mutagen from Kaiju DNA to upgrade the Foot Clan. The upcoming issue #2 sees the battle start to play out, with one cover – by Juni Ba – showing a mash-up of Michelangelo and King Ghidora, creating a formidable final form for the fun-loving turtle.
TMNT x Godzilla Is Just The Latest Upgrade For The Turtles
The Ghidora/Michelangelo mash-up was already revealed by a new Playmates line at Comic Con (via Godzilla’s official site), and is the latest in a long line of strange evolutions for the famous mutant ninjas. It’s almost a hallmark of Turtles crossovers to see them transform and take on elements of whoever they are teaming up with, which happened to varying degrees in the Batman and Power Rangers crossovers. In Power Rangers, they even became full-on Rangers and introduced their own Turtle-themed Zord.
While these are just fun covers at the moment, we could be seeing a hint of actual transformations or combinations we’ll see play out in the story down the line. If that’s the case, Kaiju Turtles would probably be the most powerful version of the TMNT since 2003 saw them become actual dragons in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode “Legend of the 5 Dragons”:
TMNT x Godzilla Promises An Epic Throwdown
In the story’s second issue, we find out that Tokyo is being besieged by Godzilla, Rodan, and Anguirus, with only Mechagodzilla standing in their way. The Turtles are trying to make it to Tokyo to help, but they have their own massive problem in New York courtesy of the always lethal powerhouse King Ghidorah. While all of this chaos is playing out, Shredder maneuvers behind the scenes to move his grand plan of a powerful new mutagen closer to success.
While Godzilla is the enemy at the moment, you can’t help but wonder if we’ll eventually see Godzilla team up with the Turtles to take on Shredder and the Foot Clan. Granted, a few monsters will likely side with Shredder to create a massive showdown as the book moves towards its close, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
