After the report hit that Black Manta would be the primary villain in Aquaman, the James Wan-directed and Jason Momoa-starring DC Comics movie currently in pre-production, the fan casting got underway quickly. One fan suggest on twitter that Michael K. Williams would be the right guy for the job, and the actor replied emphatically.

“Let’s go!” Williams wrote, after a fan said, “Dear god please make it so that [Williams via twitter handle] as Black Manta in the Aquaman movie.”
The film could certainly do worse than an actor of Williams’ caliber as their villain. The accomplished actor broke out on the HBO series The Wire, and has since seen an accomplished film, voice acting, and TV career. That has included roles in 12 Years a Slave, Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, and currently as Freddy on The Night Of. He has two TV series in the works, and will also be seen in December’s Assassin’s Creed, so a big-budget feature film based on a major franchise wouldn’t be new territory to him.
As for right now, though, Wan won’t even confirm that Manta is the villain, so it’ll probably be awhile before we hear about casting. DC Films and WB have Wonder Woman, Justice League, and The Flash to worry about before Aquaman is their next up, as well. Still, if Williams is excited about it, fans can start their campaign now.
