Director David F. Sandberg has been keeping everyone up to date on the progress of the upcoming Shazam! movie thanks to teasers on his Instagram, but in addition to his growing collection of empty Coke Zero Cans, Sandberg may have also just teased the character line-up for the film.
In Sandberg's latest post, in addition to more soda cans and a growing collection of Shazam! -themed wall art, various toys can be seen hanging out, including not just Shazam! himself, but Mr. Tawky Tawny, Mister Mind and Mister Atom. Mister Mind and Mister Atom are both villains in the Shazam! comics while Mr. Tawky Tawny, a friend of Shazam, just so happens to be a talking tiger. You can see the photo below.
This isn't the first time we've seen characters from the Shazam! comics show up in Sandberg's Instagram feed. Both Mr. Tawky Tawny and Mister Mind popped up on the same table a few days ago.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed about the addition of these or any characters to the film. There have been few official updates on the project and with Sandberg's lighthearted social media posts as he begins to put Shazam! together, including his hilarious "first look" script and attempt at shooting "special effects," the appearance of these toys could just be Sandberg having fun.
Shazam! is currently in pre-production with casting for both the younger and the older, superpowered version of Billy Batson still underway. John Cena and Joshua Sasse have been rumored to be tentative frontrunners for the hero. The only confirmed casting information is regarding who won't be in the film. Back in July, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns confirmed that Black Adam, played by Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson, won't appear in Shazam!
Shazam! was originally slated for an April 5, 2019 release date. No additional update about release date has been provided.
