It’s no secret that before the Justice League movie we’ll get later this year from Zack Snyder, there was another Justice League movie that almost came together in the late 2000s called Justice League Mortal, directed by none other than Mad Max: Fury Road‘s George Miller, with a cast of young and upcoming talent at the time.

The Justice League Mortal cast included G.I. Joe’s D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman – and most notably, rapper/actor Common as Green Lantern / John Stewart. Ever since Mortal fell apart, and the Green Lantern film franchise has tried to establish itself, fans have time and again come back to the idea of Common playing John Stewart. With the character now officially set to appear in the reboot film Green Lantern Corps, Common is once again being asked if he would be interested in joining the DC movies universe.

Speaking to Yahoo about the John Stewart role in Green Lantern Corps, Common stated (as he always does) that, “I would love to, I’ll say that. That would be a blessing. That would be incredible to get the opportunity. But that’s up to the studio and DC and those guys to see who they feel is the right person. But it would be an incredible honor and I would be geeked for that character and that role. I would go to the highest with that role.”
There’s a reason that Common keeps getting approached for he role: he’s a great fit for the John Stewart character in terms of stature and attitude – and both his action skills (John Wick: Chapter 2) and dramatic acting (Selma) have only gotten better with time.
