DC might be embracing legacy and history with their DC Universe: Rebirth initiative, but that doesn't mean they're eschewing the trappings of the modern day.

The publisher has put together a number of Spotify playlists to get fans into the mood of individual issues or characters as they're reading along.

Besides a special Wonder Woman 75th anniversary playlist that's apparently curated by Crazy Ex Girlfriend creator Rachel Bloom, the publisher's Spotify profile has playlists customized for DC Universe: Rebirth #1 and the Rebirth specials for Titans, Superman, Green Lanterns, Green Arrow, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman and Wonder Woman. There are also playlists for the first DC Universe: Rebirth-branded issues of Action Comics and Detective Comics, whcih of course didn't get one-shots becuase they resumed their pre-Flashpoint numbering.

The channel also has The Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman: Arkham soundtrack playlists, but those are obviously not related.

The playlists are, in general, not particularly geared toward geek-themed music, although the Superman playlist features a variety of musical styles, and then falls back on some expected ones like songs with "Superman" in the title, or tracks from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel's soundtrack albums.

The Spotify channel is on the level -- it's not only verified through Spotify but the Superman playlist was tweeted out by the DC Comics Twitter account earlier today -- but it isn't clear whether creative teams had any input on the contents of their comics' playlists or whether it was something determined by editorial, Warner Records, or somebody else. The upside? Most of them are pretty good. And I like the fact that the DC Universe: Rebirth #1 playlist features subtle nods to characters like Sandman and Red Tornado, as well as a closing track from the wonderful and underrated soundtrack to last year's Rocky spinoff Creed.
