When Gotham returns for Season Four on FOX, it'll bring a host of changes for series mainstay Barbara Kean. Though she was killed by her backstabbing friend Tabitha Galavan in the season finale, a new character's presence means her death is only temporary.
"She's going to be a completely different character again," Richards said. "She's coming back, she's going to be trained by Ra's al Ghul and she's going to be a lot more calm and centered. Still trying to fight for power in Gotham against Penguin … but with a lot more clarity this time."
Richards said that her character will not have the "crazed energy" she had in the past and hinted toward a future team up.
"She's going to form an alliance with Tabitha and Selina [Kyle]," Richards said. "We're gonna have a bit of a female power base in Gotham which we're really excited about."
It'll be interesting to see how Ra's affects Barbara moving forward and how she's able to mend her alliance with Tabitha after the whole murder thing.
The actor expressed appreciation for her character's constant changes over the seasons, saying that the writers have a lot more freedom with Barbara.
"I feel so fortunate that Barbara has been particularly pronounced in that way," Richards said, "because she is one of the characters we don't really know so much about, so we have more scope with that. She can change as much as we want her to because nobody has this fixed idea of who she must become."0comments
