Happy Birthday! Melissa Benoist Turns 28 Years Old Today

Happy birthday, Supergirl! Melissa Benoist is celebrating her 28th birthday today.

The Houston, Texas-born and Littleton, Colorado-raised actress/singer made her professional acting debut in the 2008 film Tennessee, which starred pop-diva and former American Idol judge Mariah Carey.

For the next four years, Benoist landed small roles in some popular television series, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Blue Bloods, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Good Wife, and Homeland.

In 2012, Benoist had her first big break; she landed the role of Marley Rose on the Fox musical comedy-drama television series, Glee. She portrayed the character on the fourth and fifth seasons and even won Choice TV Breakout Star at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards.

In 2015, Benoist got her second big break; after a grueling three-month auditioning process, it was announced that Benoist nabbed the coveted starring role in the Supergirl television series, which originally aired on CBS and will now air on The CW. This year, her performance as the second-most famous Kryptonian won her the Breakthrough Performance award at the Saturn Awards.

Benoist's other acting credits include a small role in the Oscar-winning 2014 film Whiplash, playing Miles Teller's love interest, and playing Marcia in The Longest Ride, a 2015 romantic drama based on Nicholas Sparks's 2013 novel of the same name.

Supergirl season two kicks off Monday, October 10 at 8pm on The CW.
