Celebrities, huh? They're just like everybody else!
In the sense that indie film icon and Supergirl director Kevin Smith thinks the show will bring in the Legion of Super-Heroes eventually, just like the rest of us.
Smith, who directed tonight's episode of The CW's sophomore series, didn't indicate that he knew anything specific about the Legion, but talked with ComicBook.com about the extra-terrestrial elements of the show, and whether they might eventually bring the superhero team of the future to National City in the present.
"C'mon, dude, that alien bar. That was never going to happen over on CBS, but because of that alien bar, now you get to my episode where they're like, 'Let's try going to space,'" Smith said, but then added the potentially more intriguing piece:
"She's from space. Eventually, they want to head in the direction of the Legion, right?" Smith posited. "They've got Mon-El and we've seen that Legion fight ring, so it's like, 'Why not take a step of the planet?' They're doing it in my episode."
Smith also acknowledged that heading into space on a series that has traditionally been earthbound can be tricky, and during the course of production, he was aware of the dangers.
"I was honored that they did it in mine," Smith told ComicBook.com. "And there was a lot of pressure because I was like, 'Man, you don't want this to be the episode that jumps the shark' or jumps the King Shark if you will, where people are like, 'Oh, Supergirl was great until she left the planet and stuff.'"
Given the glowing reception to Smith's two episodes of The Flash, it's likely he doesn't have much to worry about in terms of the fan response -- but even if the episode is poorly received he can console himself with the fact that he recently locked down a return trip to National City so he can redeem himself in the show's upcoming seventeenth episode.
