Suicide Squad is headed to tonight’s 89th annual Academy Awards ceremony, where it is nominated for the “Makeup and Hairstyling” award. A newly revealed photo from the set of Suicide Squad shows one actor preparing for a different major ceremony.

The photo appears in the China Times in an article about Suicide Squad‘s Oscar nomination (which is interesting in itself, since Suicide Squad was not released in China). The photo shows Margot Robbie having her Harley Quinn makeup applied, but she is wearing what appears to be a wedding dress.

The dress looks like it was once a traditional white wedding dress, but it has been given Harley’s personal touch. One-half of the dress’s top is painted red, while splatters of blue can be see scattered around the rest.

Does this mean that, in addition to the “chemical wedding” that took place in Suicide Squad, Harley and the Joker were also at some point in production planned to have a more traditional wedding, or at least as traditional as a wedding gets when you’re dealing with Harley Quinn and the Joker?

It’s possible, though it is also possible that this photo is from an early costume test that preceded principal photography. Or perhaps it was for a shot that would have appeared in one of Enchantress’s visions that didn’t make the final cut.
