Appearing to promote the network’s ever-growing lineup of DC adaptations, the stars came together onstage for the first time, giving a hint of what’s to come.
“We are proud to welcome Melissa and Supergirl to the CW this fall. Now, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl will join forces in our annual crossover event,” Pedowitz said.
Since The Flash and Arrow were used as a launch pad for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this year, there has been no official crossover between the three shows, although minor elements of Arrow and The Flash have leaked into one another, and into Legends.
It seems likely, based on past history, that the planned crossover will take place in December, prior to the shows’ midseason finales.
“I don’t think it will have a major effect on how [the Supergirl producers] actualize what they do,” Pedowitz said of the move to The CW, which he said is where the show should have been all along. Early reports were that The CW was pitched on Supergirl when it was in early development, but that the network balked at the cost of the series and at the idea of bringing in a fourth DC superhero show before the third had even premiered.
There was no reference to Echikunwoke joining the crossover event. Her CW Seed animated series enters its second season this year, and her character appeared on Arrow earlier this year, referencing events that took place in her show’s first season.
Echikunwoke couldn’t say what’s next for her but “there have been conversations about her coming back to live action.”
Supergirl will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW starting in the fall.
