Audiences are just over a month away from the premiere of the fourth season of The CW‘s The Flash and this weekend at Dragon Con, actress Danielle Panabaker gave fans a few hints about what to expect for Team Flash.

While the show’s cast has remained largely tight-lipped about what happens after Barry sacrificed himself to the Speed Force at the end of last season, Panabaker — who plays Caitlin Snow and her wicked alter ego Killer Frost — did share a few things about timeline, Caitlin’s status and if there will be another musical episode in season four with ComicsBeat.
Read on for what we can expect on The Flash.
The season begins with a time jump…and without Julian
The new season doesn’t pick up right after Barry takes his place in a Speed Force prison. Instead, audiences will catch up with events a little bit later.
“I think it’s about 6 months between the end of season three and beginning of season four,” Panabaker explained.
The time jump will not only show Team Flash trying to protect Central City in the absence of the Scarlet Speedster, but Panabaker confirmed that the time jump will also address the absence of Julian Albert, Caitlin’s love interest in season three. It was previously announced that actor Tom Felton would not be reprising the role in season four.
Team Flash will be down more than just Barry
Barry isn’t going to be the only member of Team Flash missing when season four kicks off. As fans saw in the season three finale, Caitlin has her own issues to deal with.
“Team Flash is certainly trying to function even without Barry. Iris has certainly stepped up and taken more of a leadership role. Kid Flash is still out there trying to fill The Flash’s shoes. You’ve got Cisco and Vibe trying to help as well. But Caitlin is not a part of Team Flash at the top of the season,” Panabaker said.
But Caitlin and Killer Frost fans aren’t going to be disappointed
While Panabaker has hinted before that fans will see both Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost in season four, she made the same tease again at Dragon Con and seemed to confirm rumors that the actress has been seen filming as both Caitlin and Frost.
“All I can say is if you like Caitlin Snow, you won’t be disappointed. If you like Killer Frost, you won’t be disappointed,” Panabaker said.
There may not be a musical episode, but Tom Cavanagh is directing again
If fans were hoping to see another musical episode next season then they are likely out of luck. Panabaker said that there are no plans for another musical episode. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some fun plans in store, at least for Tom Cavanagh. He will be directing again in season four.
“I’m totally inspired by Tom Cavanagh, who directed last season and has just directed again. He directed our 4th episode this season,” Panabaker said.
And Cavanagh isn’t the only cast member interested in being behind the camera. Panabaker said she’d like to have a turn as well.
“I’m no Tom Cavanagh, but he made it look so easy. I would love to follow in his footsteps and maybe get to direct an episode of The Flash.”
The Flash returns on October 10th at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
